    Yes, P45 is a HUGE Leap forward in BIOS settings compared to X38/48 and P35 models, for sure!!

    I still say you are using way to much Vtt, I have ran 550 FSB using only 1.34 Vtt

    I really hate to tell you this, but I think you need to start over!! You main issues may stem from having loaded and applied Fail Safe defaults and I would advise you to load optimized and toss all your profiles and start again. You can of course use those are reference points, but I think you using fail safe as a starting point may be why you feel you have to use such large amounts of voltages.

    2.88 Ram voltage???? You better lower that. 2.2-2.3 is not what they recommend, only what they warrant the memory to. You will not need that to be stable at normal speeds. And I see 2.1-2.2 as the max warrantied anyway from the link you gave, just so you know. Most 1066 ram will run fine at 2.0-2.1, it is when you push it past that it may need more, but not 2.3 until after 1200+ and for sure if you are seeing 2.88 in the PC Health section you have a problem.

    If you are seeing 2.88 in the PC Health section, can you please also verify that with Everest Ultimate?

    I know you hate to hear this response because I am not going to offer suggestions for settings, only because I want you to load and apply optimized and then start at things. If I make suggestions now you may not do that, and then change only the things I advise and still have issues due to hidden settings that fail safe uses.

    So please load optimized and start again and I can help. And safe yourself some grief and work on one profile at a time until you have it stable, then move to the next. your first two profiles can be easily done, the latter will take some effort for sure

    Good idea starting again, i will work on 445x9 tonight. Which template should I work on achieving? Could you give me a basic 445x9 template?

    Ahh ok, well that is more acceptable for sure. But again you may only need above 2.1 at higher then stock speeds

    I just wanted you to start again due to you had been using fail safe settings as a starting point, which of course has some incorrect visible and invisible settings when it comes to overclocking.

    I's say ya, start with the middle ground as the lower is easier and the higher of course would be harder

    I will try these settings again tonight. Did you see my post earlier regarding my PC resetting itself in an endless loop? Do you think theres something further wrong with my pc considering I also use to have these problems with my EX38?

    OK I tried your settings. First of all I couldnt post. I found this to be because my CPU Vcore/Termination was too low. So I raised it to 1.38term /1.387core. I also raised the MCH core to 1.3. This time the PC Did post, but restarted itself when doing intel blend test.

    I had this config on the 2.00B strap and driving strength set to 800. So ive left my PC with the same config with driving strength to 1066 instead to see if it makes a difference. I realise the B Strap not to be as stable as D, but I want to try and get it stable on B if possible.

    I feel that my E8400 must be a very poor chip its a "C0", not E0, or there is something wrong with my cooling. Under load my CPU Temps go up to 75'c. This is with 1.387 set as vcore in bios and 1.34 Load, 1.36 idle. Im sure i should be getting better temps than this. The ambient room tempreature is cold, around 20'c-25'c max.

    As I know you want it, here are my current settings. Note that I took each maximum value from your reccomended settings LSDMeasap, apart from vcore, cpu term and MCH core, all of which I had to increase further.

    Well if you switch to the D strap multi's you will be able to lower some voltages across the board likely. The B strap requires Much more voltage to things like Vtt and MCH If your ram does not like to run with it on a high FSB. There is not much difference between them at all, only in benchmarks and then it is only little depending on the tRD Set.

    Some ram just WILL NOT run the B Strap above 400 FSB without massive voltages needed or terrible timings, so you may have a set of that. Switch to D and see how you fair with lower voltages

    I have a C0 E3110 (Same as 8400) and mine required about 1.34 Vcore at load to keep stable, so I think you may have one that is similar. I also thought mine was a volt hog, so don't feel bad. Yeap, there is better ones out there for sure

    Vtt (Termination) is so high for you because you maybe should use the D strap or you need to adjust your MCH Ref. I had to use 1.32-1.34 for a while and then after adjusting things I could run 1.28 stable.

    I've Never had to use above 1.34 and you should not at all until after 533-550+ FSB. Your tests of lower then 1.38 of 1.36 may be the wrong way to think about it, did you try 1.28/1.30/1.32 as well or not? Also, did you test 1.20-1.24 MCH Voltage?

    Ok, I tried what you suggested, first on the B strap and also later on the D strap.

    Whatever I do, I cannot get in to windows unless I have 1.38+v vcore and 1.38 termination (vtt). I worked my way up from 1.362 vcore and 1.28 termination all the way to 1.387vcore and 1.38 termination. None let me post beneath these voltages.


    I did however once bumping the cpu voltages up, manage to set my MCH to 1.2v and still get in to windows.

    I also found that allthough the below settings failed intel burn in test, the driving strength of 1066 worked better than 800, which gave me a bsod when in windows.

    My understanding when setting vcore and vtt is that vtt should be near vcore. So for that reason I performed a few tests apart from testing each seperetely to make sure this wasnt holding me back.

    Sticking a 1.362vcore, i tried termination at 1.28 until 1.34 and i couldnt post.
    With 1.387vcore, i tried termination at 1.28 until 1.36 and i coulnt post.

    I also tested 1.4vcore and 1.38 termination and system was unstable. Temps on this test go to 77'c!! <---Is this far to high?

    My vdroop at 1.4v is 1.34 load and 1.36 idle.

    Also, between testing after applying settings (F10), sometimes my pc would get stuck at the gigabyte splash screen or stuck with fans on 100% with no display and i would have to manually restart the PC and it would reset the bios again, Is this normal?

    Ive got a sneaky feeling that my CPU Or PSU is holding me back...These are the same items included in my EX38 Build when I previously had random bios resets upon the occational reboot...drives me mad lol.

    Sticking a 1.362vcore, i tried termination at 1.28 until 1.34 and i couldnt post.
    With 1.387vcore, i tried termination at 1.28 until 1.36 and i coulnt post.

    I also tested 1.4vcore and 1.38 termination and system was unstable. Temps on this test go to 77'c!! <---Is this far to high?

    My vdroop at 1.4v is 1.34 load and 1.36 idle.

    Also, between testing after applying settings (F10), sometimes my pc would get stuck at the gigabyte splash screen or stuck with fans on 100% with no display and i would have to manually restart the PC and it would reset the bios again, Is this normal?
    Ya, that temp is getting a bit warm

    Yes, it is normal for the PC to have various issues when incorrect settings are used

    You have to keep in mind your vcore is much less then what you are setting, and your Vtt is not. So you are using way more Vtt then Vcore in your above described tests.

    I would say test again, using 1.225-1.28 Vtt and see what happens, on the D strap with 1.2-1.24 MCH

    Holding you back??? You are at 4Ghz, what else do you want?

    Hey. I will try again with that when I get home.

    When I say im at 4ghz..the settings above arent stable. Even with 1.4vcore. Is setting my termination beneath 1.38 going to help this? Surely less voltage isnt going to help stability!

    Ok LSDMeasap, after further playing around, I performed the following tests:

    vcore 1.4v
    vtt 1.2,1.24,1.26,1.28,1.30,132

    vcore 1.362
    vtt 1.2,1.24,1.26,1.28,1.30,132

    vcore 1.375
    vtt 1.2,1.24,1.26,1.28,1.30,132

    None would post, only vcore 1.381 will post with vtt 1.38.

    So I thought if giving your siggy link a go 'Setting up MCH Reference'

    With this, I can get in to windows with a 1.36vcore (although things are unstable) and a 1.22vtt. My reference was set to 0.75 at the time I believe.

    I think with some further tuning of this along with maybe CPU ref as well, we may be able to get there!

    So i tried

    1.362 vcore, 1.22vtt - BSOD with burn test
    1.4v core, 1.22vtt - Burn in test fails
    1.4v core, 1.24vtt - Burn in test fails

    Each time keeping my MCH Ref between 0.74 and 0.76, but not above 0.76

    Hadnt the time to do more testing, but what should I try? Where exactly do I need to keep my MCH Ref and how do I also adjust my CPU Ref?

    For some reason it may seem my board was over/undervolting MCH ref when set on auto, so it maybe doing the same for CPU Ref as well.

    The rest of the settings are the same as before, except vcore 1.4, vtt 1.28 and mch ref 0.75. Im guessing its best to try different MCH refs starting from .73, but where should I start? Maybe i need more rather than less?
