Thread: 4ghz, UD3R and Team Xtreeme Dark 2x2GB DDR1066

Default Re: 4ghz, UD3R and Team Xtreeme Dark 2x2GB DDR1066

Whatever I try LSDmeasap, i cant get a stable overclock..I can post better with setting mch reference manually, but I still fail burn in test.

Here is the closest I got (70% of tests passed in burn in test).

Notice how much voltage ive given each reference value. I really cannot get anywhere by setting them where they should be (according to your guide). Leaving them on Auto is a disaster..

I also tried stcok 3.20B and i got errors using burn in test.. Gotta feeling my CPU is faulty, what you reckon?

    EDIT

Tested at stock settings 5 passes of burn in. All Passed
Tested again stock for another 5 passes of burn in, almost all failed??? whats going on?

    EDIT2

Thought memory was at fault? Tested memtest 86+ 2.1. 1 Pass on 450x9 overclock and stock. Seems as tho CPU Is definitley at fault. Cant even get stable at stock...

Looks like my CPU cant pass stock anymore...driving me mad!!

    EDIT3

I have tested with memtest for a longer time. Here are my results

I reduced cpu speed to 6x333 (3.20B)(2ghz). MCH was at 1.34 and mem at 2.3 (2.88 actual)- This is the Max of what Team warrant. The memory timings were the same as suggested in your last template.

After an overnight session, memtest fails on Pass #7 with two errors.
    ---

Also tested 450x9 (2.00D) (using the template above) for around that same time period. Memtest fails in Pass 5 with far more errors.

    -----------

Also tested stock 333x9 (3.20D multi). Memsettings as above, Memtest again fails after several full passes.

Just so your sure. Ive been using Memtest86+ 2.11 (i did check it was the right version).

Im confused here, because this suggests my RAM to be at fault again..but i just changed my RAM because i conclude my old sticks were the problem! I have my MCH at 1.34, so surely thats not the problem.

Could a bad CPU cause memtest errors? I guess it also tests L1 and L2 Cache.

EDIT 4. Just realised been running chips at 2.3 when warranted voltage is only 2.2 max, hope havent damaged chips.. Will have to check with a run tonight 6x333 on 3.20b (1066mhz) with 2.2v - eek i hope i havent damaged these sticks :(

Still found errors testing at 2.2v. Seems the ram is faulty again, unless memtest is failing because of my cpu..

Ive taken one stick out now, so testing just the one for errors.

Default Re: 4ghz, UD3R and Team Xtreeme Dark 2x2GB DDR1066

I suggest you set CPU Ref to default, and with your overclocks try .69-.745 MCH Ref.

I have my MCH at 1.34, so surely thats not the problem.
And I do have to say since you said something, more MCH Voltage CAN Cause errors and I do not think you need anywhere near 1.34 MCH Core for only 4GB

Yes, incorrect CPU Settings could possibly cause Memtest errors.

Do some tests at all Auto settings once stick at a time and then one stick in each slot to be sure the slots are both ok. Load optimized and save/apply/reboot and reset all your SATA/Disk settings again before you get started. Then use Manually set Perf. Enh. on standard, Manually set Memory Multi, manually set Ram voltage and Manually set MAIN Timings thats' it. The rest should be left on Auto for single stick testing

Thanks, i will alter this tonight.

Could you let me know how I can determine if I have a CPU or memory fault Lsdmeasap? If I test all sticks and get errors, how do I know if its my northbridge or CPU at fault? Could it be the case that all 6 of the memory modules I test are faulty?

I dont wana purchase a new CPU for so much money to find out my E8400 is not at fault!

Well you test all things at default and Auto except for the ram things mentioned above, if you have errors it is most likely the ram (99%) TO be sure though you would need to perform tests on a similar system with the same settings to rule your board out as a issue.

You should not have any CPU or NB related errors at stock settings with one stick, so if you get memory errors then it is almost always the memory. Now that could mean faulty memory, or it could also mean that it may just not be compatible with your board.

I feel a bit of Deja vu here. My Gskill ram is compatible with my EX38 and My P45 (Tested by Gskill).

My Team Ram is listed on my P45's QVL list!

I really hope its not the case its compatible and the fact that now I have errors with another brand of ram (concluding my other ram was incompatible) seems to suggest there is a problem with my CPU..but then it wouldnt make any sense why I receive error messages using Memtest!

This is just so my luck! Maybe i should give up building my own PC and give Dell a call or something:P

Hmm, that's odd. G.Skill in my own tests works just fine with P45 boards??

Buy ya some Mushkins HP or XP's and you will be set. The new Crucial's I reviewed would also be great (See sing for link to Crucial Review)

Default Re: 4ghz, UD3R and Team Xtreeme Dark 2x2GB DDR1066

Yeah I know, my Gskill had a problem with my EX38 board, they are PQ's (not the latest PI's) and I beleive they changed the chipset used inbetween this.

I havent had much time to test my Gskills on my P45. I didnt have much luck overclocking with them inserted, so i tried my new Team RAM.

I just think its pretty remarkable after replacing everything in My PC apart from my CPU and PSU that the problem remains the same. Thats why I suspect my CPU To be at fault. Especially since each RAM ive purchased I checked that it was compatible prior to purchase!

Well, trial and error again lol. Testing one of my Team sticks right now and have asked my GF To check if she sees any red and to swap the sticks over before i get home tonight:). Hopefully It will narrow things down. If they both get errors, when i get home I will do what you have suggested to see if it makes a difference.

Then of course I will check each of my Gskill sticks on default settings as you suggested 1 by 1.

I have tested my GSKILL on my EX38 and there were no errors on there, so if errors appear with them on my P45, then there must be a problem with the board or my CPU :(

    Aarggh

    EDIT1

Team Stick 1 Failed Testing on Pass 7 using 2.2v and 1.34v NB
Team Stick 2 Passed 30 times! using your settings.

Testing Tean Stick 1 using your reccomendation. (Optimise, Save, Reboot, Manual Mem voltage (2.2v) manual mem timings 5,5,5,15. Everything else auto)

Hope still find error with Stick 1 with your test! At least this classes my cpu or that particular memory slot from being the cause of these memtest errors!

    EDIT2
    (Forum Style Changed!)

Team Stick 1 Failed Testing on Pass 7 using 2.2v and 1.34v NB
Team Stick 2 Passed 30 times! using your settings.
Team Stick 1 Failed After 2 passes on test 7 using your settings.

= Team Stick 1 was at fault.

Now testing in the same slot one of my GSKILL Dimms, will post test results later tonight. Booking in RMA for Team sticks. (Both same Serial)

    EDIT3

Gskill Stick 1 Faulty, failed pass 5
Gskill Stick 2 Passed 27 passes
Gskill Stick 3 Faulty, failed early
Gskill Stick 4 Passed 30 passes

Damn annoying as each of my test concludes I know have to send back all sets of dimms to obtained matched modules back again!

Maybe I will by those mushkins or crucials after all:P cant have too much ram and of course, it doesnt cost much!

Well good news is that Im stable at stock running my two error free GSKILL sticks. Bad news is however I have to send all my memory back for RMA as they are each match pairs lol.

Idealy I want to get both my memory and CPU overclocked, what ram would you buy to run at the highest speed on this board? I know 2x2GB wont clock as High as 2x1GB, but what memory can I buy to clock the highest?
