    Default EP45-DS4 beeping

    My EP45-DS4 based PC seems to have developed two (possibly linked) issues.

    Firstly, when I turn on the mains power the PC starts to boot up immediately, even before I've pressed the power button on the front.

    Secondly, when immediately after powering on the PC often produces a string of ~30 short beeps before resetting itself. It will do this several times before finalling POSTing and booting in to Windows. It's been completely stable for over 6 months and has just started behaving like this recently. My first thoughts were that it could be memory related (4x1GB of Crucial Ballistix PC8500 running at 2.2v) but I ran memtest86+ overnight with no errors reported. Could it be a power supply problem? I've also noticed that one of my (3 speed) case fans was running very slowly, to the point that the fan low speed alarm would sometimes go off if it was on the lowest speed as the fan sometimes stopped. The fan was connected to the pwrfan2 socket on the motherboard but when I moved it to pwrfan1 the fan ran much (much) faster and the low speed alarms stopped.

    30 short beeps is often a memory error/issue. Are you getting a overclock warning when you enter the MIT Section of the BIOS? Normally when you have triple reboots the BIOS will reset and use Defaults, even though you will see your settings still showing in the MIT Section. So if you have a CPU Overclock, you can easily check in CPU-z if your overclock is actually being applied or not. If you are using stock then it would not matter so much as the stock values would be loaded in this case anyway.

    4x1GB needs several changes in the BIOS, so if you have not changed much then this may be the issue

    That Sys_Fan2 Header is often buggy on some boards and in some BIOS's so that is a normal issue and I do not think that indicates your PSU at all.

    Let me have your settings, and a screenshot of this program showing and CPU-z showing as well so I can advise back >>>

    Yep - I do get the overclock warning. My Q6600 CPU is not overclocked. Settings and cpu-z/memset screen shots below. Thanks for your help with this!

    Sorry for the super late reply here, my internet was shut off until today!!

    So red warning with no overclock eh! Sounds like voltages may be off as well as incorrect timings possibly then. Timings for the most part look ok, so if these voltages I advise and few timings do not help let me know and I will advise you a full set of very loose timings we can start ya with and then work backwards

    Hey, for that 2.2V ram voltage you have set what do you see in PC Health section for Ram voltage? Just want to check to be sure it is not way off from what you are setting

    No worries! All replies gratefully received .

    Definitely red warning with no overclock. I've changed the timings/voltages as you suggest but it hasn't helped so far. I've tried MCH Core at 1.22 and 1.24, but you say to perhaps try 1.05. Was that a typo and did you mean something else?

    I've set ICH I/O to 1.54 as there's no 1.55 option, only 1.54 then 1.56.

    PC health shows the DDR voltage as 2.192v.

    The thing that gets me is that I've been using this PC since last summer with no problems and suddenly it's started playing up!

    I've just seen on another thread your suggestion to try 1.05 for MCH Core, so I know now it wasn't a typo. I don't however, appear to be able to set 1.05 - just 1.000 or 1.100

    So did you try 1.0 MCH then. Yes, it was not a typo, I suggested to try 1.05, just seems your board model does not offer the smaller increments on voltages is why you cannot set that

    Have you tried manually setting Vtt (Termination)? If you are still at stock then try Vtt 1.225-1.25 and see if that helps, try this with 1.2-1.24 MCH

    If you are still having issues and none of that helps, please post me the full settings you are using again and a screenshot of this program so I can see what Auto gives you for some of those values >>>

    Thanks for you continued suggestions - much appreciated.

    I'll try MCH at 1.0, then the vtt/mch combination you suggest.

    Memtest86+ run overnight doesn't show any errors, but could my Crucial Ballistix PC8500 memory be causing the issue? I doesn't happen every time I boot, only when the PC has been powered down completely overnight with the PSU isolated from the mains it appears.

    Not sure, Blackbat, but that's how my memory difficulties began. Are you running all the Memtest tests?
