Default Brand New Mobo GA-EP45-UD3P problem

Brand New Mobo GA-EP45-UD3P (rev 1.1) build. Just finished yesterday, powered it up and it runs for about 10-12 seconds then shuts off, then by itself comes back on again for 5-6 seconds, shuts off, comes back on again for 5-6 seconds and shuts off.....and so-on and so-on. I disconnected all optical and HD. Processeor is an Intel 9550 quad, memory is 8gb of Corsair Dominator 1066 DDR2 with cooling fans, graphics card is an EVGA 9800GTX, power source is an Antec Neopower 650, all in an Antec 1200 case. Cooling fan on CPU delays for 1-2 seconds after mobo powers up.

Later today I am going to try using an old switch to turn on rather than the onboard switch to rule that out. I am going to disconnet the main power plug and realign how it gets to the board. I am going to remove the grahics card and use a smaller card that I know works. All this to rule them out.

I'm leaning towards this being the Mobo, but it could be the power source.

Does this situation sound like any known problems? Any suggestions, insights or thoughts?
    Thanks in advance.

How far into the boot did you get ever? Is the power cycling occuring before the bios posts? After the bios posts? etc? You really have to be more specific.

If before bios posts its probably a power source (ie 8pin or 24pin are not connected fully) or improperly seated cpu (not bad memory like everyone says. the bios checks memory).

if after, i'll have to sit and think some more.

I realized this morning I didn't have the speaker attached so I got no beeps. The progression of lights on the board all lit up. The monitor never showed anything, but that could be a few things. I'll have to hook the speaker up and try again when I get home today.

    1) Try booting with only 1 memory stick (in slot #1**).
    2) Enter bios, load optimized defaults, save and exit (F10).
    3) After reboot, re-enter bios, enter M.I.T., change dram voltage from AUTO to the correct value for your memory.
Don't make any other bios changes at this time.
    <don't make="" any="" other="" bios="" changes="" at="" this="" time.=""><don't make="" any="" other="" bios="" changes="" at="" this="" time.=""></don't></don't>
    4) Save settings and exit bios.
    5) Power off your computer & remove external power plug from your psu.
    6) Install 2nd memory stick.
    7) Try again, it sounds like you know what to do at this point.

You might need to boot with a single stick of "lesser" memory.
    Good luck.

Thanks all, as with many "weird" problems, it ended up being something silly. One of my memory sticks was not locked in, but I couldn't see it because the view was blocked by a fan. Once it was locked in the machine posted and I've already started to adjust the bios. So all is well!

    Thanks all for your ideas.

Problem is solved. Installed Vista 64 without a problem, installed most of the Gigabyte extras, installing NIS right now. So far everything is beautiful!

    Sounds good!

Yes, loading optimized defaults is a must for any new build or hardware install as well as anytime you flash the BIOS. Please see the BIOS flashing guide for more info and tips on loading optimized defaults >>
