Default Strange boot on overclocked i7 with Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5

Hello, I have recently overclocked my i7 920 to 3.8 ghz and since the OC, the computer boots as such :

    Press power button
Fans spool and mobo LED's turn on
    System turns off
3 seconds later, system turns itself back on with no errors and the mobo LED status reads "FF"

No error codes, system runs flawlessly in Prime95 etc, seems to be very stable.

These are the things I changed in the bios:

    base clock : 180x20
    turbo on
    HT on
everything else on AUTO / Standard
    didn't play with ram OC

I then went back into the bios to see if maybe turbo or hyperthreading had any part in the boot, changed the settings to:

    Base clock: 185x20
    Turbo off
    HT off

System still has the strange booting, any ideas?

I had the same issue for abit and found that is a voltage issue. You have the voltage for the cpu either to high or to low. When i was having the issue everything ran fine to but if i ran prime95 for say 3 hours the system would crash. What are you volts on the chip?

Hello, would love to resurrect this post, as I am still getting the strange boot. I figured since this Mobo has been out for some time now, someone might know what the issue is.

I had same symptoms with pre f7 bios on my EX58-UD5

Bios f7 onwards for me has fixed double boot issue.

If I did not know how to do a bios update or look for a guide in this very useful forum (its even been stuck at the top so everyone can see it), then I would ask myslef why am I overclocking my all ready pretty fast chip.

For a start a BIOS update has no relavence to your OS version or anything like, the BIOS is used way before your OS even comes into play.

I really think it sounds like you should take some time to learn a bit more about computers in general before you jump into overclocking them.

I don't mean to sound nasty or anything like that im just trying to save you some time and money,

If you want to carry on then have a look at the Bios Update guide in this forums main page and the sticky called "Lates BIOS" and you should find all you need to sort the bios.
