    Default GA-EP45-DS3L - Built Jan, off-and-on freezing that bios tweaking hasn't solved

    I keep thinking I found the problem, and the system will run stable without crashing (and with gaming) for days, then it'll freeze up. The symptom is always the same - the entire system will freeze/lock with no ability to call up the task manager, alt-tab, etc. Basically just a completely non responsive screenshot of whatever I was doing, but no responsiveness at all.

    As a note, I've found that when I have bad bios settings I can trigger the crashes by dragging a window around my desktop, or dragging through a google maps image, if that is at all helpful.

    My main problem here is that I came on this site 3 or 4 separate times since I built it ~January 6th to look up bios values and tweak things, the problem will seem fixed, and then it'll sneak back in and happen once a day or so. Quite odd. I've decided to post looking for recommendations and just start over - I reset all of my bios settings to optimal or least likely to cause my CPU to burst into flames or whatever that setting was. It made the problem worse, as I expected, since my tweaking of memory voltage and such in the past had helped - but I want to be methodical, step by step, and act on the advice of those more knowledgeable than myself this time! So any advice you can give on what bios settings to tweak would be extremely appreciated.

    OK, more progress. The setting System Memory Multiplier ..............: 3.20 was stupid because my RAM was only 800 mhz and needed a lower setting... d'oh... computer is booting up now, and I am waiting for it to restart itself or freeze :P

    Windows logo! haha... progress indeed... password entered, computer loading...

    Windows open, no quick crash, moving windows around won't crash it.

    Where should I go from here?

    Wow, lotta tries there. What speed do you optimally want to run and I will advise full settings for that speed

    I think you are trying to many incorrect things at once voltage wise, and for sure your ram is not going to run at 1066 stable until you get it stable at 800-900, then maybe you could try 1066. Best to be using 2.00B (After 400 FSB you may need 2.00D) until I can get back to you, you will get much further

    I realize I'm guessing wildly here. My initial problem was I was looking up specs posted for other owners of my motherboard with similar setups, and accidentally copied a set from somebody using faster ram than mine. Let me re-post my specs in a more legible manner, I realize above was pretty much just item numbers -

    CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400
    Memory: G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory
    Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-EP45-DS3L
    HD: Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s
    GPU: SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 4870 512MB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0
    PSU: Antec earthwatts EA500 500W

    I'd be happy to run everything at stock timinig if it were stable at this point - 800 for the memory, 3 GHz for the CPU.

    The computer ran rock-solid for hours last night, then I decided to run windows memory diagnostic tool (should I use memtest isntead?). It froze 64% of the way through, and when I Restarted the computer it got into a restart cycle before posting. When I got it restarted and loaded windows, it froze as before a few seconds in. Been running fine since then though... but I definitely still have tweaking to do I'd say.
