Default How to set CPU multiplier to 9.5X in GA-VM900M (v1.0)? BIOS update in its way?

    I'm facing a problem with GA-VM900M (v1.0).
It's a particular issue about CPU multiplier of E7200, for it's a decimal multiplier.

E7200 has 1066 MHZ FSB and clock speed is 2.53 GHZ

To achieve the regular 2.53 GHZ clock, it needs to have the CPU multiplier set as 9.5 X , cause:

    FSB/4 * multiplier = internal clock

    so:

    1066/4 * 9.5 = 2527.0 (2.53 GHZ approx.)

However, the BIOS DOESN'T seem to offer support to set decimal multipliers.
Instead, the max value it accepts, either manually or by loading optimized defaults, actually is 9X.
    So:

    1066/4 * 9.0 = 2394.0 (2.40 GHZ approx.)

As you can see, all this means E7200 is running at a lower clock: about 2.40 GHZ.

Considering I'm using the latest BIOS version, F7A , from 29/7/2008, is there some special way to manually set a decimal multiplier?

If not, I'm really expecting a BIOS update so that this problem is gone.

    Best regards

From what ive seen of gigabyte bios postings there is usually a enable/disable .5 multiplier seperate to the main multiplier if the cpu supports it.
My cpu only has x6 or x7 it doesnt support a 7.5 setting.
Ive seen other bios from the same mbrd as mine and people with 9x + the option of adding the extra .5.
If the cpu is on the boards support list the .5 option should be there.

Edit:I just checked myself as a matter of interest, the E7200 isnt supported by the board in revision 1.0 or 2.0
    GIGABYTE - Support&Download - Motherboard - CPU Support List - GA-VM900M (rev. 1.0)
I suppose the board doesnt support half multipliers.

Does the bios allow you to overclock the fsb(cpu ref frequency) to say 280mhz from 266,that would give you the stock speed on the cpu approx.
If it doesnt, well cant really complain since the cpu isnt supported.

Honestly, I'm not sure about N/A in Gigabyte's page.

    See why:

Both E4600 and E4700 are there as N/A

E4600 has FSB 800 MHZ and clock speed is 2.40 GHZ

    So:

    800/4 * 12 = 2400

E4700 has FSB 800 MHZ and clock speed is 2.60 GHZ

    So:

    800/4 * 13 = 2600

This way, we've found processors have non-decimal multipliers, 12X and 13X consecutively, and both are simpler than the E7200

Once, apart the multiplier issue, E7200 works perfectly with GA-VM900M (v1.0), I doubt E4600 and E4700 are really incompatible with it, as there are more complex processors that are actually supported.

For what it seems, it doesn't

I'll try something to see if I can enter the decimal multiplier somehow, based on your statement that some boards have a separated field to enter .5

I'd just like to hear if there's some update planned for this board to fix this issue

    No success at all.

I'd just like to know from Gigabyte support if there's some update in mind to fix this problem.

N/A means not supported as quoted from the site >>
    N/A = Not support
    GIGABYTE - Support&Download - Motherboard - CPU Support List - GA-VM900M (rev. 1.0)

I believe since that board is so old it will not likely see a BIOS Update that will allow this due to chipset limitation, as none of the N/A ones are listed as under testing that must mean they have already tested and found no way the hardware will support this feature
