    Default E8500 overclock on GA-EP45-UD3P

    I have a E8500 E0 stepping on a GA-EP45-UD3P, with Crucial Balistic DDR2-6400 (2G x 2) and a XFX Geforce 260/216...

    Using Lsdmeasap MOST excellent guide to my memory.. and setting for it.. I have gotten to 500 FSB with the memory running @ 1000...

    The problem I have is that I don't understand the System Memory Multiplier.. I have it set to 2.00D but I really don;t understand why.. why yes I am a "noob" My proc I think has a 1333 FSB.. so by running at 2.00D doesn't that drop it to 1000? though my memory is much faster like this..

    Anyway.. I can overclock the E8500 to 3.5Ghz with these settings.. which are just for the memory.. but I seem to have issues going higher.. I really want 4-4.2Ghz

    What should I try? Just bosting the Vcore doesn;t seem to help...

    Im no expert but I think you are possibly going about it the wrong way with a low multi and high FSB. Once you get up to that 500Mhz range things start to get funky. I would drop your FSB to 400 and up your CPU Mulitiplier to the 9.5 and that will give you 3.8Ghz on Stock Voltage. Well mine does anyway. Then Change your memory multiplier to 3.3D if there is such a thing?? It should show you in that section what your Memory clock will be. Im sure LSD withh chime in with the correct answer soon.

    EDIT: Hang on a second. Your memory is only 800Mhz. Mate just set FSB to 400Mhz, PCI Express Speed to 100Mhz, Memory Multi to 2.0D. Start off with maybe a CPU Mulit of just 9 and that will give you 3.6Ghz. See how that runs. Then bump to 9.5 and see. You may need to bump up some MB voltages ive got +0.01v on MHC.

    I hope I can keep part of the FSB boost.. memtest86+ showed a 76.6% boost in memory throughput with a FSB of 550.. which was pretty sweet.. of course I changed something with out writing it down... and now I am working my way back to 500 FSB... I'm very close on that. LSD you around? :))

    Well If you can get it stable at that sorta FSB then go for it. Yeah the E8500 is a great chip for overclocking, mine is @ 3.8ghz with air, it idles around 36ish and max load @ 55-60c

    There you go thats what Im using. A friend of mine had to put CPU Vcore to 1.3 to get stable, but yeah give it a whirl. Start off at 9X400 and see if thats stable then change to the .5 multi

    There are 2 multipliers that are used to tweak system performance:
    CPU Clock Ratio and System Memory Multiplier

    CPU Host Frequency is used by both of these multipliers.

    CPU Host Frequency X CPU Clock Ratio = CPU Frequency
    and
    CPU Host Frequency X System Memory Multiplier = Memory Frequency

    For example: 500 MHz X 7.5 = 3.750 GHz (3750 MHz) CPU Frequency
    ................. 500 MHz X 2.0D (or 2.0B) = 1000 MHz Memory Frequency

    Quality DDR2-800 ram can often run at 1000 MHz and possibly higher.

    Once your system is stable, you can further improve memory performance by tweaking memory sub-timings.

    tRD (Static tRead Value or Performance Level) and tRFC have the most significant effect on memory performance after your primary memory timings (5-5-5-15 in your case) have been tested to be fully stable.

    With my setup, tRD = 9 and tRFC = 48 provide the best performance. These values are not guaranteed, even if someone has an identical setup. With most memory timings, lower = higher performance, up to a point. If only one setting is set too tight (too low), instability and/or reboot problems will occur. All this is covered in LSDME's Bios Tweaking Guide.

    Thanks NimrodAUS! I just used the settings you provided on my setup, which is also an E8500 on the GA-EP45-UD3P. I followed all your same settings, except for my ram, which is 4-4-4-12 and I left the sub-timings on auto. I've got a nice, cool 3.8 OC now. Idles at 35C and hasn't passed 45C under load.
