    Default GA-P35C-DS3R rev1.0 and PCI-e 2.0 x16?

    Hi
apologies in advance if this is obvious or old, but...

    I can't seem to find any definite answer, will this rev1.0 board (with PCI-e 1.0) support a PCI-e 2.0 x16 graphics card?

Currently I've got a XFX 8600GT PCI-e 1.0 card running quite nicely, but would like to upgrade now the prices are falling.

I'm looking at XFX 9800GTX+ or Sapphire HD4850 cards, the best info I can find (and that's not from manufacturers!) only gives a vague impression that while PCI-e 2.0 SHOULD be backwards compatible, it may depend on mobo bios, and recent gfx cards may be less cross-compatible.
    Another example of non-standard standards?

    I'm currently running bios F10.

Please help, I'm tired of fruitless research!

    Thanx

    U wont get any guarantees.
Yes intercompatability is supposed to be good mb-card n vice versa but if one is pcI 1 and one is pcI 2 expect pcI performance .ddr3 over ddr2 on the gx card is more imp.
8600gt was the highest older card that didnt need a seperate gx power lead,
If your psu isnt great or you dont have a gx card 6 pin supply, the highest nVidia now is the 9500.(whichwouldnt be a whole lot better than an oclked 8600 with the same memory etc)

    YES it will work.

Only difference between PCI-e 2.0 and 1.1 is just the Link speeds have been doubled.
There should be minimal performance differences between 2.0 and 1.1.

    hmm, I think the rev1.0 mobo I've got has PCI-e 1.0, not 1.1.
(it's just listed as PCI-e, does anyone know?)

Why are u so concerned? Yes it is PCI-e 1.0 but technically its 1.1, i wont go into details here.

I have a PCI-e 2.0 card [9600GT] and it was put in my old P35-DS4 with PCI-e 1.1 and it works fine.

    Thanks randomness
My concern stems from some info suggesting that a PCI-e 2.0card in a 1.0 slot might be no-go, whereas 1.1 may be ok

A lot of UK suppliers charge a re-stock fee or even try to refuse returns, if the goods are'nt actually faulty. It's often difficult to prove they're not fit for purpose, usually they won't stick their neck out when asked about specific compatability.

hah yeah, they r really picky about returns or refunds. Well its partially your own fault for not checking its compatible with ur hard ware.

But im 100% sure it will work.

Hmm, I think I'll just take a punt, then.
I have a "Plan B" for the card if it doesn't work on this mobo.

Thanx randomness, thanx to kick too!
