Yes, listed at $65 but when I tried putting two in my cart they came up at $54 each, and I think they are doing free shipping as well!

My P5E and ECC RAM came in today, gonna get the parts swapped in over the weekend. I'll let you (and everyone else) know if it proves to be a successful setup with regard to eliminating the crashes I experience every day with my P45 chipset/non-ECC setup...

    Thanks again for the lead!

Unless you are exposed to unusually high cosmic radiation I would not expect you to receive enough radiation to cause memory error crashes daily. I have been using ECC memory for years as a safely precaution, but I have yet to notice an error being corrected. There may have been some (I don't check my system logs that closely) but I have certainly checked the existing logs (covering a period of about a week) on several occasions and found zero errors.

    Other possible explanations would include:

    • Software bugs (in which case the problem will probably remain, unless the bug is in a driver that only the old motherboard needed)
    • Defective RAM (in which case the new ECC memory will probably fix the problem, but not due to being ECC memory)
    • Defective motherboard (in which case the new motherboard should fix the problem)
    • Defective CPU (in which case the problem should remain)

I will certainly be interested to hear if your new system fixes the problem, but unless you see daily 1-bit EDAC errors in your logs I would not conclude that using ECC memory was what fixed the problem.

For what it is worth, I have run Linux servers that had uptimes in excess of a year, and only went down after a year because I wanted to update the kernel - and some of these servers did not have ECC memory!

Which operating system are you using?

I agree that the P45 non ECC setup in question likely has other problems than not using ECC. You should be able to set up a 100% stable system for regular or enterprise/mission critical work without CC. It's just that ECC wull give you an extra layer of reassurance.

It may not even have been a fault with any components that causes the instability, as a mere wrong BIOS setting can do this.

If you rely on your PC for your job, be it CAD, audio/video or even to do your accounts on, then it's recommended to run a program such as Prime95 for a minimum of 24 hours. If it's stable, then trusst it. If it's not, tweak it and try again.

I have been having this same problem.

    Has it been resolved yet.

I have found x48ds4.f3c and x48ds4.f3d BIOSs what are the differences from x48ds4.f3b

motherboard_bios_ga-x48-ds4_1.3_f3c.exe was actually on GAs FTP server.

C and D would be newer BIOSes than B, did you try them yet?

Since this is an old thread I am not sure if we ever resolved this or not, sorry. And since users stopped posting that doesn't help either :(
