    This is similar to your initial setup (using slots 2 & 4). Is it possible that initially you used mB in slot 2 and mA in slot 4?

    The only other change appears to be LSDme's bios suggestions. I'm excluding the many times that you've removed and installed both memory modules.
    Yeah, that's why I'm so perplexed! The main difference is the Advanced timings being set at specified values and many of the voltages being set at "auto" Of course, these are the settings from post 39 and 41 (for the single channel)...but they are working just fine well into the second pass

    Honestly don't know which module was A or B when I first started. But when we tested them individually, they performed the same, so I'm not sure that matters? But who knows...this is almost like Voodoo at times!

    Swapping memory positions and using the same pair of slots can make a difference (stable vs unstable), but for me, this indicates that there is still a problem and is unacceptable, as this indicates that the system is borderline stable and potentially flaky.

    memory installed:

    both modules in mobo channel B

    test results:
    boot = OK

    problems: none

    notes:

    Initial boot screen displays "Memory Runs at Dual Channel Interleaved" [identical message to test 03 using channels A & B]

    Memtest86+ displayed info:

    FSB= 333 MHz____________Type = DDR2
    Ram = 533 MHz (DDR1066)
    CAS: 5-5-5-15 / Dual Channel

    note: Identical results with test 01 which ran using the mobo's A memory channel (slots #1 & #3)

    next test:
    none, at this point, there's nothing to be gained from testing individual memory modes individually in the other 3 memory slots

    conclusions:

    1) SFChief's system suffers from demonic possession.
    2) My memory is better than his.
    3) I really shouldn't write conclusions when I'm tired.

    Years ago, I read somewhere that labeling memory modules & writing down which slots they are mounted in might prevent possible problems in the future. There might be something to this; on two occasions (Pentium 3/AMD K6 era), I "fixed" flaky memory by swapping memory locations.

    erratum: All these tests were run (accidentally) with EIST = Disabled (counter to LSDme's suggestions). C1E was properly enabled.

    @SFChief

    I see in Post #49 mismatched tRD (Static tRead Values), just so you know in case you missed that.

    And what do you mean Memtest40? Do you mean Memtest86+, hope so?

    There is so much info here, from both of you.... So what is your conclusions from testing SFChief? Is all ok now? I think I am fully lost now

    Nice catch. I saw tRD = 10 for channel A, but missed the tRD = 11 for channel B.

    Does this invalidate his testing? Obviously each channel should have the same tRD.

    Does this mean that I have to rerun all my tests with mismatched tRD values?

    SFChief can summarize his findings.
    The bottom line: My setup had no issues with memory slot usage.
    SFChief's setup doesn't work with many/most module/slot setups, but now his memory channel B_setup (slots #2 + #4) appears to work after his preliminary Memtest86+ testing (with mismatched tRD values).

    When SFChief started this thread, he was using memory slots #2 & #4 and had major problems.

    I didn't find any "Memtest40" references on this (2nd) page.

    Na no tests would need to be re-ran, tRD 10 and or 11 is loose anyway and should pass either way, especially at stock speeds. I just pointed that out in case he did not notice them to be different in the BIOS

    Memtest40? Ya, I do not see it now either? Maybe a Edit Ninja came thru?

    Well.... He should be using slots 1+3 anyway, was there a reason he was using 2+4 or just for testing?

    Hey, did anyone ever tell him how to disable Easytune from Startup? If not let me know and I will tell you the steps needed and link a app to remove the registry entry for the service as well

    We discussed this early in the thread. SFChief was concerned with NB cooling and restricted air flow due to the proximity of memory slot #1. I replied that this is a non-issue, as my setup's temps are excellent when using slots #1 and #3. I have a Zalman ZM-MFC2 fan controller that has four temperature monitoring probes. One probe is inserted into the open end of the NB heat sink closest to memory slot #1.

    The built-in watt meter on the Zalman is neat, right now my power consumption at idle (and running your Q9550 test config) is 118 watts.

    I'm really disappointed with your non o/c Q9550 bios test settings; my E6550 doesn't perform anywhere near Q9550 speeds.

    **edit** I confirmed the temperature readings with my infrared thermometer.

    I ran Memtest86 overnight and got over 12 passes without an error!

    I went back and checked the tRD value and sure enough, I missed that in the BIOS and it was on "auto". I changed it and briefly ran Memtest86 without a problem.

    I'm not sure what to make of this?!? Can you see anything glaring from my settings in post#5?

    And just to confirm the module are both OK, I'm now running Memtest86 with the Modules swapped in channels 2 & 4....no errors through over 8 passes

    As profJim confirmed...I was concerned about the proximity of channel 1 to the NB and the CPU heatsink fan (it's quite big).

    I would LOVE to learn how to disable Easy Tune 6 from start up. I had uninstalled it because I was tired of the Vista permission screen and didn't really need it since was making adjustments in BIOS anyway.

    So the succesful set up is that using your settings from post #39 (reccomended Q9550 1066 settings) with the modifications from post #41 (for the single channel tests). Should I next try the settings in #39...with less auto settings?
