    Ps Thanks to you guys for helping me out, and giving me some specs for o/c. Definitely try them when I get this thing fixed.
    This is normally just incorrect memory settings, that is all. I can cause it on purpose anytime. Please give me your settings you are trying when this happens to you and I will advise back

    well i'm trying to o/c my ram to 1333 mhz to match the fsb on the cpu. So I tried adjusting the memory multiplier to get the speed and that is when i my comp fails to post. the voltage is set to 2.1v. The timings are set to the manufacturers specs (OCZ Technology | Products | Memory | OCZ DDR2 PC2-8500 SLI-Ready Edition Dual Channel

    I've got a hunch that my ram timings might have to be adjusted to get stability at 1333mhz. The settings on my cpu are 333mhz x7. I'm running the core2 quad 8200.

    Also today i had xp hang up on me, one while installing C&C red alert 3 and the other while running the visualizer for itunes in full screen. At this point i'm not sure if this is hardware or software related.

    It ain't gonna happen (memory running @ 1333 MHz) with your setup.

    Cpu-z displays "Rated FSB" on the inital screen. Rated FSB is:
    4 x cpu host frequency, so a Rated FSB is 4 x 333 = 1333.

    In my suggested o/c, cpu host frequency is 401 MHz, so the Rated FSB would be 4 x 401 = 1604 Rated FSB, which is doable.

    Have you changed any bios settings from the values shown in post #3? If yes, post your current settings. There are some changes that need to be made in your posted settings to get your system stable.

    There are a couple of voltage settings that need to be changed for you to run with rated 5-5-5-15 memory timings.

    Are you confusing running memory at DDR2-1333 speeds and a rated FSB = 1333 as a desired goal?

    Many feel that a 1:1 ratio (memory to cpu host frequency) as optimal for system stability. Often times you'll see this ratio called "FSB/DRAM ratio", but this is NOT the same as running your memory at 1333 (2 x 667) with a rated FSB = 1333. To add more confusion to the equation, a 1:1 ratio means that you are using a 2.0X memory multiplier.

    With memory "running" at 1333 MHz, the "real" memory speed is 666.5 MHz, whether you're running a single module, 2 modules or 4 modules. When we're using DDR2 memory, the effective memory speed is double the "real" speed.

    If you're really, really lucky, 1066 memory will overclock to 1150 - 1200 MHz, and possibly a bit higher. You'll get the best overall system performance when you balance cpu frequency with optimal memory settings. Some games or programs will take advantage of significantly higher memory speeds, but most programs scale (improve) with higher cpu clocking.

    My apologies if some of the terms aren't exactly right.

    As stated above the 1333mhz memory speed isnt likely to happen.
    7 cas timings are a bit extreme for ddr2 memory at the speed its supposed to run at 5 timings.
    Also as above just oclking the memory while cpu is at stock isnt going to inc performance much.
    Since you have the standard cpu cooler ,lets assume your cpu will run 10C hotter at full load.
    Try something like this which isnt a huge stretch for the cpu and should give you a good idea on the memory.

    If it seems to work ok ,you could try the 2:66D multiplier to get the memory up to 1066 mhz.
    I suggested using 2.14 for the memory to account for possible volt drop when running.
    If it doesnt boot up/run properly at those settings try "one thing" at a time.
    Small increses in cpu v,perhaps try it with llc enabled.If no joy there move down to the memory enter the main and advanced timings(if you have found out what they are) in the memory bios section.
    Try 6-6-6-18 even just to see.7 settings shouldnt be needed even for testing.
    mchv work it up a little each time.

    Save your working bios setting before you do anything so you can load it again if you need to (F12+F11 keys).
    With a 400mhz cpu/fsb ref frequency your fsb will be running at 1600mhz, so you wont have to worry about your memory matching that frequency (it wont).
