Thread: GA31M-ES2L<-- Is this OC able?

Lol...My first (family's first actually) computer was the UK based Amstrad 8086 CPU with the optional-wait for it-8087 math co processor.....had special "hi res" extended cga 16 color graphics and GEM gui before windows was released...I started out tearing it down and putting it back together when I was around 11 and then using its massive 640k ram, created Virtual hard drives to play old floppy based Indiana Jones games that needed hard drives (which ours didn't have).

I was a DOS geek as a preteen but lost time for PCs and other than an old AMD 133mhz PC about 10 years ago, I have only been playing with them over the last few years again :) Just a little catching up to do haha...

BTW, I see LSD's writeup specifies that the BIOS file should be exactly 1mb but the Gigabyte BIOS files are .52mb files....

It's 1GB or smaller for the older Qflash versions.
Be sure to disable (uncheck) the "Keep DMI Data" option before flashing.
You'll need to load Optimized settings after the flash completes and re-enter your desired bios settings.
It's best to flash using stable, non-overclocked settings.
Hopefully you'll be reporting lower temperature readings after the flash.

For those who aren't familiar with bios flashing, it's ok to skip bios versions when flashing.
Lsdme's guide is must reading if you want a successful flash and NOT end up with a bricked motherboard.

Flash update to F10 a success, thanks for the reminder about disabling dmi data also!

Unfortunately, temps are the same in BIOS, CoreTemp, RealTemp and CPUID. Well we tried lol....

Try running a Prime95 Small FFT test for at least 15 minutes.
Normal Prime95 core temps with good cooling should be in the low to mid 50o (C) range, possibly slightly lower with a non-overclocked system.
Make sure that "Round Off Checking" is enabled (has a checked box) before testing.

Well I thought I posted it up last night but I ran Prime95's small FFT function but there was no option for "round off checking" on the menu anywhere so I'm going to download another version I guess and compare. FWIW, it ran for about 15minutes last night and at 100% load, it hit a max of 56C. Then again, if my temp numbers are wack to begin with, it's hard to say. I'll edit this when I run another prime95.

EDIT: Version 27.3 is not available from marsienne or anywhere right now so I downloaded v26.6 and it too has no option for round off checking but I'll run it anyway shortly...

UPDATE: Ran Prim95 small fft test for nearly 20mins and max temps bounced between 53-56 but mainly stayed around 53-54C the entire time. Also the air coming off the cooler was barely lukewarm. I seriously think I have a sensor issue or something. I've read that some w/7200 cpus had funky (high, especially idle) temps.

I have Prime95 26.5(x64) and it has Round off checking
GA31M-ES2L<-- Is this OC able?-p95265-png

Yes the E7200 has a bit high idle temps, the only concern is load temps though.
since I had dust issues (one fan stopped working) and had to take the board apart I Installed my old E7200.
Can you ran IBT(Intel Burn Test) standard stress level? Lets see what temps and GFlops you get.

Just a note: I reloaded the settings that LSDmeasap suggested back on page 4 (which worked on the stock HSF) and booted up. After one auto reboot, desktop loaded fine but Prime95 crashed instantly. "FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.5, expected less than 0.4" "Hardware failure detected, consult stress.txt"

I'll d'load the intel burn test now and report back shortly.

1st edit: I went ahead and gave Intel burn test a shot w/the current 3.16ghz settings and after 1:40, with the test set to standard, it crashed after reporting temps and system unstable. Funny thing is, Realtemp was only reporting temps of 55-56 max...I'm now going to try the test w/default Optimized settings.

What settings are you with now? If Prime fail IBT will too for sure?

EDIT: and please attach a CPU-Z text report (CPU-Z -> About tab -> Save Report (.TXT))

"Go advanced" then manage attachments.
That's max temps with IBT? Post your settings too please.
