Thanks for posting, looks like I missed the OP's reply.

Maybe these posts will bump his thread and PM him to come look? Hope so if he still needs some help

Hey guys, I didn't think it necessary to start a new thread since I'm running the same mobo (GA-G31m-ES2L). I'd like to try my hand at a little basic Overclocking as well and realize the inherent limitations of this budget board. I'm running an E7200 C2D @2.53mhz (266x9.5 according to MIT).
    I'm also using OCZ DDR2 800 2GBx2 memory with timings of 5-4-4-15.
Graphics card is a basic EVGA 9500GT 512mb card.
I'm running XP SP3 as well.

I realize that the last section of the template wasn't available to me perhaps due to certain functions being 'Auto' by default so if I need to enable some things I can. I just didn't want to go into this w/a trial and error attitude this being my first time trying to OC. I'll probably upgrade the MB,etc down the road but for this year, I'm content.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

The settings you couldn't find are in Advanced BIOS Settings.
In main BIOS screen press ctrl+F1, the screen should blink, see if there are any additional settings in MIT.
Can you post a screen capture of MemSet main and spd(click spd) windows?
    What is default vcore?
I think it is a native 333 FSB, so it should not be a problem OCing it to at least 3.16GHz.

Actually, that's AFTER hitting CTRL-F1....there's less before:)

Ok, I'm going to need baby talk here...Memset? SPD Windows? Where can I find these exactly?
By default vcore, are you referring to the default CPU voltage? If so, it's in the above template at 1.2125v. If not, my apologies.
EDIT: Re default vcore, I went into the PC Health Status screen and Vcore is 1.188V. Is that what you were referring to?
BTW, I can't for the life of me remember how to screen capture. I built this desktop back in january and find myself forgetting easier and easier lately when I'm not constantly working w/this stuff, plus I'm not up on the various utilities other than memtest and cpuz. In my case, if I don't use it alot, I definitely lose it!

For full screen capture, press the Print Screen key (usually to the right of the F12 key).
Open an image editing program, then paste (using [Ctrl] + V ) the image into the program.

To only capture the active window, follow the same procedure but use [Alt] + Print Screen key.

Links for benchmark, monitoring and other programs are in the Latest Overclocking Programs, System Info, Benchmarking, & Stability Tools thread.

Sorry you filled the template like a pro I assumed you'd know where to find it.

There should be "Normal Vcore" in BIOS is it the same as in your template?

The value in PC Health is the actual measured applied vcore and will always be less than was set in BIOS, perfectly normal though.

If you capture the wholse screen "crop" the unneeded parts, select the desired area, copy or cut and paste it in a new image file.
If you are using IrfanView, it has a built-in crop command that will resize the image that will contain only the selected area.

I have memtest already but I need to download Memset from the link proJIM provided? Do I also need to download Easytune to run the spd windows you asked about? I checked gigabyte's motherboard utility section and Easytune 6 doesn't seem to support the G31 setup and no support listing is given for Easytune 4 or 5. Any way to find which version would support my motherboard?

Re the vcore, the 1.2xxV I posted in the template is the 'Normal core voltage' found in the MIT BIOS section, yes.

    Thanks for the help guys!

Well guys, I'm going to try and learn more of the basics before I start trying to OC. I don't want spoon fed answers since it'll do me little good and I don't want to play 'trial and error' on this machine.

However, one question about memory. I noticed in MIT that my DDR2 800 memory timings are listed as 6-6-6-18 whereas the specs of the memory are 5-5-5-15.

Is the computer simply playing it safe by using 'looser' timings? Like I said, I have little to no clue about what all of this means and don't have much time ATM to learn everything necessary but was wondering if there's any point in manually changing the timings to the 'tighter' specs? I'm guessing no, but just thought I'd ask.

Honestly, I was hoping that with one or two BIOS changes, I could bump the E7200 from 2.53 to closer to 3.0ghz but I guess not huh

The BIOS can't read the sticker on the memory, but it reads SPD/EPP programed to the memory, check spd window in MemSet or spd tab of CPU-Z

i had this board before and it took my e2160 to 3ghz with an aftermarket cooler. upgraded to an e8400 and it wouldnt oc that much until i changed the pcie speed to auto instead of locked at 100mhz. when on auto i can go way further to 3.8ghz stable. i wish i had set it to auto when i had my e2160. probably could have squeezed a few 100 mhz out of it.
