Thread: GA31M-ES2L<-- Is this OC able?

Yeah, that's about what I decided on, 342-346. I'll have to double check when I get home but IIRC, it took 105-108 to get above 343...Still a stable 3.74ghz isn't bad for a 3 year old and $60 motherboard not geared toward OC'ing.

I'll play with it for a little bit and then later this year go ahead with another Gigabyte board build. I'll be looking for some suggestions too! Not sure if I want to go iCore or give my old underdog friend AMD a shot...

Nice to see you've made some decent progress on this! 3.74Ghz is good for this board!

I'd suggest Gigabyte Z68 or Z77 for your next upgrade!

Well I'm going to give Chike the 7200 as a trade so he can further his mad scientist project lol....If I could find a decent GB board for under $75 I could tinker a little more with the setup but I'm not sure aside from that. I'm always open to suggestions, and yeah, 3.74 is pretty good for a light OC budget board!

I've been so busy I haven't had time to check the OC forum FS threads but if you guys come across anything first, hit me up for sure...

Will do some piddling with the settings tonight....

I looked up reviews for the Black Edition AMD 955 but it seems it needs severe OC'ing just to match or compete w/the i5 CPU....really wanted to try AMD but my next goal will be to hit 4ghz+ stable on air, the more the merrier...

I've been keeping an eye out for a P45 for you, but only seen them above $75 so far, I'll keep looking though! The ones I do see are 90 OBO (You might be able to get for $75?), $95, ect. I have not looked at [H] Forum, there's a much larger crowd there so you might want to look there

If you are going to stick with 775 I'd suggest a 8400/E3110 CPU and P45 board, otherwise save your cash and grab at least Z68/Z77. Speaking of that, I do see a E3110 for sale right now, last price update was $70 OBO shipped, but that's to the US. If you want the sellers info you'll need to be a member at XS, or if not I can contact him and have him come here and chat with you if you want.

I'm not sure what I want to do yet...Like you guys said, I'm pretty much tapped out with the 7500 at just under 3.8ghz. I think I want to try something out in the 4.5-5ghz range, like the i5 2500k. I'm still waiting to see what can be had with AMD. They have some decent performance and OC potential but it seems they require nearly double the wattage right now which is unfortunate. I don't want to rush it though, I want it to last me at least 2-3 years and will probably keep the budget to under $1k in parts, the cheaper the better. I want to go as fast as possible (performance over numbers on paper) without requiring a 2nd mortgage or my own private cooling tower to cool the CPU lol...

Yeah, it would probably be toward the end of the year before I even start seriously looking. I use the laptop more than the desktop and it's a 6+ year old HP zv6130 at that, except that I upgraded it to a 2.4ghz SanDiego core CPU (last of the 939 socket desktop CPUs used in a laptop) so the desktop is mainly for watching projector movies, encoding, photoshop,etc....

I didn't have much time to tinker this weekend and couldn't get past 3.77ghz anymore at PCI-103 and remain stable in IBT. So I'm currently stuck at 3.77ghz and PCI=103 though I could go a little further by upping voltage and PCI. Current memory timings are:
    4-4-4-12
    Act to Act (tRRD) 3
Rank Write to Read Delay 5
    Write to Precharge Delay 7
    Refresh to ACT delay 47
    Read to Precharge delay 5
    Static tRead value 6

Can't boot any lower than 4-4-4-12, resets itself and these other latencies are about as low as I can go and remain stable. I was able to boot into Windows at 355x11 at PCI=108 (3.9ghz) but IBT wouldn't even start lol...

246MHz FSB is no go with 103/104 PCIe clock?
What is vcore at idle for these settings, and what is it in BIOS?
