    Default Gigabyte EX-58 Extreme Core i7 Quick Start?

    Hey guys, new OC'er here. Until this point I've never OC'd a system, but currently have mine running at 3.2GHz with HyperThreading and TurboBoost on with minimal BIOS changes (did not use EZTune) on a Gigabyte EX-58 Extreme.

    I know, not impressive in the least. However, I want to learn what I'm doing more than just stumbling through my BIOS (especially when it comes to voltage).

    It appears I'm at a dead end right now, as simply trying to force the multi any higher (such as 3.4/3.6GHz) gives me an unstable OC (not due to thermals, however).

    Is there any place that is sort of a "quick start" reference guide to OC'ing the 920 on this board? I'd really like to see how far I can push my particular chip on it's V8 cooler, and avoid voltage as much as possible (that's the brutes method to force OC'ing, from what I hear).

    The only difference between the above, which I am using now at 3.2GHz, and my attempts to reach 3.6GHz is at 3.6GHz I run at 180x20 and lower my QPI as well as lowering the speed on my RAM before cranking the proc. However, that OC is only stable for roughly ten minutes and I get a system crash (which doesn't surprise me, I just don't know what to change to make it stable).

    Like I said, I'm really new to OC'ing.

    I set all my BIOS options to the suggested ones from MaximumPC and kept running into a 0x00000124 BSOD.

    Eh, it would appear this thread has died anyhow?

    When i tried achieving a clock speed of 4GHz i encounted some problems. THe guide tells you what voltages you should have, but IMO dont jump from 1.15 Vcore voltage to 1.5V Vcore voltage, as it may inflict damage to your cpu.

    I couldnt properly get it stable because my i didnt have time to figure out my DRAM voltages and memory clock speeds so im still on 3.2 for now, which is good enough i guess.

    0x00000124 is Incorrect QPI/Vtt Voltage >>>

    0X00000050 << Incorrect Memory Timing/Freq or Uncore Multi

    Alright, I still can't get her to 3.8 and stable. Crashing within minutes of loading an 8:8 Prime95 run.

    Are there any threads that spill the beans on getting i7 920 to 3.8 on this board? Like the code posted above?
