    Default Cold Boot Issue at Stock Speeds

    i just want to preface this by saying this is nowhere near my first build - although it is my first x58 system.

    From what I can tell from reading various forums, including this one, I'm experiencing the cold boot issue - I have been from the time I put everything together about a week ago. The problem has occurred with every BIOS I've tried - F5, F6c, F6d, F6e, F6, and F7a. I've tried both failsafe & optimized defaults in the BIOS, as well as manually changing settings. I've gotten up around 3ghz so far with my i7 920 with minimal work, and all is stable - once it gets into Windows.

    At this point, I'm not even trying to overclock, as it will take 3-5 times for the computer to start from cold boot. However, it has been rock solid in Windows even under full load. Does this point to an issue with RAM incompatibility? In addition to using all 6 modules of RAM, I've also tried just 3x2gb, 2x2gb, 1x2gb, but don't have any other types/brands of RAM to swap out. It seems to be the consensus that a lot of the cold boot issues are RAM related.

    If anyone has any thoughts on the matter, I would be greatly appreciative.

    Well, use Optimized for sure to start with! Then I would suggest the latest Beta BIOS, or one you like at least

    Then please give me your settings you are trying to use and I will advise back. The double/triple boot issue may not be fixed yet with your BIOS as it is a BIOS issue and not always settings. I have never seen 5 bootloop, only 2-3 then it will start.

    Lets try to get you going with 6GB for now, but if you think you are ok aside from the bootup issue then you may be fine you will just need to wait for the proper BIOS. I do believe it is fixed in the UD5 with one of the latest BIOS's not sure I will Go check the thread over to be sure.

    I do know it is NOT Fixed in my board as of yet!!!

    Never seen 5? I have a GA-ep45-UD3R with 4x1GB 1066 Crucial Ballistix that can take up to 20 boot/reset cycles to start.

    Gigabyte tech support has been of very little help.

    It's happened to me on rare occasions. Your mobo is VERY unhappy with your bios settings and can't recover to finally boot using "safe" default settings. Shut off your computer using the PSU on/off switch. Wait 5 - 10 minutes and then power up your computer, entering the bios immediately. You might have to LOAD OPTIMIZED settings to temporarily get your system stable.

    Post your bios settings using the generic bios template. Be sure to include a link to your memory's specs. Also include the bios version #.
    The more info you include, the better. What started the problem; overclocking? recent hardware changes? new build?

    PSU: model #? wattage rating?

    Include a list of all your major components, preferably in your signature.

    I suggest that you start a new thread with a title similar to:
    Continuous Reboots, XXXX, YYYY, ZZZZ <---where:
    XXXX = mobo model #
    YYYY = cpu model #
    ZZZZ = ram name
