Are you sure that your cpu needs over 1.4 volts? Other threads have lower voltages near 4.0GHz speeds. Your memory should be able to run with tRFC = 52 - 54 and tRD (Static tRead Value) can come down to 8 and possibly 7.

    Hmm, that looks pretty nice.

My advice, go in 4MHz FSB increments. If you're not stable at 4MHz above then it's not worth bothering.

At most, go +0.1v on your memory.

@ profJim, not all memory and not all mobos run the same. He might get away with a tRD of 8, he might not. tRFC at 52 could be achievable but more than that i dunno. And at the level that tRFC affects performance i dunno if it's worth bothering.

Sorry if i messed up any terms, i'm a little drunk right now.

That's why I said "should". tRD and tRFC have a noticeable positive effect on memory performance, but most memory tweaking should wait until after he has reached his overclocking goals. It's really no different than setting voltages a little bit higher, once a system is stable you do your final tweaks.

Lsdme's excellent Overclocking & Bios Tweaking Guide covers this in detail.

I tried dropping Vcore to 1.4 and I straight failed 28 minutes into Orthos. Otherwise with 1.41250 I can go all day long it seems. I was toying with looser ram timings and tried increased fsb to 422, upped vcore to 1.43250, and term to 1.34 to hit 4ghz but Orthos gives me the error "Rounding was .5 expecting less than .4" everytime.

I also tried doing basically the same settings above but using only CPU Clock ratio of 9 with no multiplier and a FSB of 444 and auto mch , and a mem mult 2.40B... it just doesn't like that though.

At this point other than if there are any small improvements anyone notices I can make, I don't think 3.9ghz will make to much of a difference vs 4ghz and I am atleast happy I have my RAM running a little past their intended speed!

    That looks pretty good. However:

    tRRD........................................... 3
    tWTR.......................................... 3
    tWR............................................ 6
    tRFC........................................... 52
    tRTP........................................... 3
    Command Rate (CMD) ....................: 2

should be a tad bit faster. No reason not to set them if you can.

Rule of thumb: If it's not too hot, then there's no need to drop the volts. And like it looks, your RAM just doesn't agree with 4GHz. However the difference is too small to bother with it, my advice, just make the most out of your system like it is. Have fun.

I'll give those changes a shot for sure. You may be right about the 4ghz, but since 4ghz was my goal, and the difference between the two would be miniscule, I would rather move on to other fun stuff... like cleaning up my ugly hard drive partitions! haha

Rerun your failed test (9x multiplier) but set MCH core = 1.28 volts.

You might be able to run with:
    8.5 x 458 = 3893 MHz and 458 x 2.40B = 1099 MHz.
Using the "B" multiplier might involve a bit more tweaking, but it might allow you to run tRD 1 click lower than your current "D" multiplier.

So many options, so little time.

    tRRD........................................... 3
    tWTR.......................................... 3
    tWR............................................ 6
    tRFC........................................... 52
    tRTP........................................... 3
    Command Rate (CMD) ....................: 2
I've run with these settings; tRFC = 52 might be too tight, especially running close to DDR2-1100. Right now I'm 7 hours into Prime95 (blend) & no problems with tRFC = 54. YMMV.

The other option is to call it good (for now) & move on to other things. Make sure that you save your stable bios profiles. If you're not familiar with bios profiles, read the first part of this link.

Thanks for the advice, I am familiar with bios profiles. I befriended them very early. :)

For now, I am going to let the settings stand as is (unless of course my current test fails), but I appreciate your reccomendations and I will definitely keep them in mind. I plan to revisit the settings and do some further tweaking/investigating here in the future, but for now I am trying to get my feet on the ground so I can take care of all the other tasks that require some much needed TLC

    You guys are great!
