    Default Need help optimizing EP45-DS3R & E8500 OC

    I've recently made significant equipment changes to my system, and I need help re-optimizing the OC on my E8500 for the new equipment.

    Previously, I was running on two kits of G.SKILL 2 x 2gb DDR2 800 RAM for a total of 8gb. I am now using a kit of mushkin 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory.

    I encountered a lot of small difficulties with the motherboard using 8gb of RAM, and I figured I would be able to tweak a little further using a better quality and lesser amount of RAM.

    I also switched out my old power supply for a Corsair 850TX to curb any potential power issues.

    Current Specs:
    EP45-DS3R
    E8500 w/ xigmatek 120mm rifle cooler
    Mushkin DDR2 1066 (2x2gb)
    EVGA 295 GTX
    Corsair 850TX 850W PS
    500GB/80GB WD HD's
    Creative soundblaster x-fi titanium

    My current settings below have not been optimized for the new kit. I would grealty appreciate it if anyone has any reccomendations to help stabilize things. I would like to smooth out the settings for 4ghz, and then hopefully move up to 4.2ghz if at all possible.

    Ah, 1066 RAM. A pain in the rear. 8GB of it. Even more of a pain in the rear.

    First, don't be afraid to bump the MCH voltage up to 1.4. Second, you haven't specified, are you currently stable with your settings?

    Also, the 2.00 divider is for people running sky high FSB speeds, or for people who have no choice but to run them (such as me with my E6550). I see you have an E8500, see if you can lower the FSB, bring the multi back to 9 or 9.5 and up the RAM divider. Most boards are way happier like that.

    I switched from an 8gb kit down to a 4gb kit of RAM so my settings are not stable. I'm looking for changes that should be made to accomodate the reduction in RAM.

    Any reason why you did that? Then again, 4GB is enough if you're not running virtual machines. Also, what test do you fail?

    Try MCH Frequency Latch to 400. CPU Termination - 1.35v, CPU PLL 1.55v. Leave MCH to default, shouldn't have trouble running 4 gigs.

    Like you said 8gb of RAM was a pain so I opted for better quality RAM in a lesser amount to hopefully fine tune things. And I can't think of time when I used more than 4gb of RAM. I believe the 8gb was holding me back in some aspects.

    Ok, so, I have done a lot of variations of my original post and have been no where near sucessful (failing less than 10 min into Orthos).

    I am aiming for 4ghz, and stopping there as it's enough for what I do.

    The settings below have given me some success (48 min into Orthos before failing), but I'm still not very good at OC'ing. Maybe someone has some suggestions?

    8GB may never run stable at 1066, I suggest you move down to 2.00B or 2.00D Memory multi

    More voltages do not always help, and can make things more unstable. Here is what I suggest for you for now with the above setup, with ram at 800 >>>

    If you look closely he said he moved down to 4GB and needs help with that. The rest of your suggestions are good.

    To the OP: What error does Orthos give? Sometimes the unstable part can be pinpointed by the error.

    Yes I did move down to 4gb of ram. The ram I have is the kit hyperlinked in my OP.

    I am not sure what the error message was. I will check when I get off work and report back.

    Since I am using a 4gb kit rather than a 8gb kit is there anything different I should/can do differently in reguards to my ram speed/timings or should I start with LSD's reccomendation and run at 800mhz?
