    don't take it like that. I just haven't seen someone run a 3x multiplier like ever.

    Anyway yes I suggest you flash to the latest bios and initially choose "optimized defaults" on the main page so it sets the new bios settings in for every page. Put in 1.3 for the cpu voltage and put in 2.1 v for the ram voltage. i suggest you go with a 333 latch and a 2.00b multiplier and then fire it up. In the peripheral page, turn off usb detect. see if that helps.

    Don't worry about the 3.20B memory multiplier, it's fine for standard settings. If you overclock, this will need to be changed later.

    Run Memtest86+, if there are no errors (at least 6 complete passes), continue stress testing with Prime95, OCCT, or Orthos for a least 3 - 6 hours, overnight testing is best. If there are any errors or problems, give details, don't just say XXXX failed.

    Next post:
    1) Iinclude the bios settings you used, don't just copy these, manually enter your settings and add [AUTO] where appropriate. Include any additional MIT bios settings from your bios in your post.

    2) Include a screen shot of Memset; press the SPD and ">>" tabs to include additional memory settings.

    Sunburn, thanks for your help, It seems like I am starting over, learning new settings. I get frustrated when I don't know what to do, or how to fix it.
    After I thought about my situation, this is no different than learning MFM, RLL, Falcon DOS, MS DOS, on a XT. Also ran a BBS on a C-64. My first computer was a Vic 20.

    ProfJim, OK your settings look good so far, will let ya know.

    Oh, had to kick back the "System Memory Multiplier" to [2.00b] it was in a boot loop.

    Ahhh, well I couldn't get my PC to turn on......
    Plus I also was so shocked that your memory multi was set to the ungodly 3.20B that I didn't know what to say.

    No, actually I have found if I turn the power strip on and then wait a few minutes the PC turns on most of the time on the first try. I guess this Gigabyte needs to "warm up" before it wants to start. Kind of like my old diesel glowplug warmup.

    Man, MS DOS on an XT. Next you'll be claiming you once hunted dinosaurs.

    maybe its your strip going bad, or a damaged cord more likely. boards should be able to cold boot :(

    Can you post your settings (using the 3.20 memory multiplier). Your boot loop issue is probably caused by one or more bios settings that need to be changed.

    This can be a hardware issue and/or a bios setting issue. Post your current settings and let's see if there's anything in the bios that might be causing your cold boot issues.

    Use the forum's SEARCH feature and use:
    cold+boot

    You'll find that it's not a rare occurrence.

    As I said earlier, the 3.20 memory multiplier is commonly used, especially when you're running you cpu at 333 MHz and your memory is rated at DDR2-1066. There's nothing inherently unstable using this multiplier. With a highly overclocked setup, the 1:1 fsb/dram ration using the 2.00 memory multiplier is often needed and might provide the best overall system performance.

    Glad to hear that you're making progress.
    Keep in mind that the bios settings you're using are geared for a stable system. Even if you don't want to overclock, there are some additional settings that will improve your memory's performance.

    Once you've completed stability testing (Memtest86+, Prime95, OCCT, and/or Orthos) give a holler & we'll optimize your system. These optimal settings are less involved than the changes I detailed in my previous post.
