    Default GA-EP45-UD3R Intermittent Power On

    I have a GA-EP45-UD3R set to optimized defaults in Bios and find that every 6 to 10th time the system fails to power up. The power light comes on for a split second and turns off. I need to switch off/on power on the PSU to get the system to turn on. I have previously set a "stable" overclock and at some point the system lost the overclock settings and reverted to defaults. I normally power this system off when not in use and find that it is a crap shoot as to when it will actually turn on.
    All these same components work fine when connected to a $50 ECS motherboard that has no bells but also has been 100% reliable.

    I have the same problem, same motherboard, even changed power supplies.
    Maybe we're not set up right?
    I do NOT know how to set up the BIOS, it is all at it's defaults.
    What would be the correct setup for a stable system, over clocking not needed.

    I've been reading, maybe I missed a post about this problem.
    If so, can someone point us in the right direction?
    Still would like to set up my BIOS right, I just do not know what to put in it.

    Well, it seems like support is lacking to address this question.

    I would also add that if I turn off power on a power strip, with the PC turned off of course, the system then will not just power on normally when I switch it on after having turned off power on the power strip. I must always power off/on the PSU power switch to get the system to power up. Even then it does not consistently power on correctly.
    Is there some protection circuitry on the motherboard that requires some particular power on sequence?
    I would add that for years I have turned off my Asus P5B at the power strip thus turning off a bunch of peripheral power adapters I hate to leave on to save power. Never a similar hiccup. Not once.
    What is up with this motherboard? Seems very flakey. Feels like Beta quality to me.
    I have called Gigabyte support and they were utterly useless other then to provide an RMA to swap for a board (after a couple of down weeks) I suspect would do the same thing..
    Of course I know the simple response is to simply leave the thing powered up but this is not acceptable.
    Russ, as to your bios setup you should begin by loading optimal defaults if you have not done so.

    It is too bad that you have run into this weird problem. Replace the BIOS settings in the template (from lsdmeasap) with your own, and someone should be able to help you set up your BIOS:

    I'd look into a power strip failure and a power supply failure. BTW, make sure you're running all your tests at default settings not oced settings

    Using default OPTIMIZED settings can lead to boot problems until you make a few minor changes in the bios MIT section. Once we see your current bios settings, we'll be able to get things sorted out.

    When you fill in the bios settings, be sure to use AUTO for all settings that are currently set to AUTO. Some of the displayed numeric settings are NOT what is being used.

    Here are my settings, I know they are not right.
    I was trying to go by the Sticky: OC and BIOS Tweaking Guide.
    I'm behind the times, now I know why my other GA-965P-DS3 Rev 3.3 doesn't work right either, will get to that one after this newer one.

    dude. wtf is up with your sys multiplier? I suggest 2 for stability even if your ram can indeed run at 1066. you don't gain anything from running your ram faster than your cpu freq and if anything risk stability.

    make sure you have the latest bios. check the gigabyte website.

    set the pcie freq to 100 not 102. that very well may be your issue. the pcie slot is very picky and you don't gain much of an advantage by increasing its slot frequency. if you want to oc your graphics card, oc the card and not the slot.

    also go auto for the vcore. you may be undervolting it and thats your problem. if its already auto, put in 1.3 as the value and see if that helps. my stock voltage for an e8400 is 1.225 and your chip runs slightly faster. it may not need the extra voltage; it may, but i suggest setting to auto first and then manually punching in a value if that doesn't work.

    Well DUDE, if I new WTF was up with this MB I would not be here asking for help.
    I did update the BIOS to F8, like you suggested, now I'm back to asking for a simple stable bios setup for my system.
    It should not be this hard to set up a MB.
