    Default GA-MA790X-UD4P and DDR3?

Greetings fellow Gigabyte board owners! I just bought the GA-MA790X-UD4P on Newegg and some of the personal reviews I have read from the site state they are using DDR3 1333 and some are using DDR2 1066. I know that the board "officially" runs DDR2 1066 OC'd to 1333 but can it unofficially run DDR3? I would think not but I wanted to ask all the experts before I decided on my memory speed. Also, from the specs listed on the Gigabyte homepage for that board it stats it runs the ram at 1.8 volts. Does it have to only be 1.8 volt ram or 1.8 volt and higher? Thanks guys!

Now I have GSATA2 ports problems with it. My sata2 harddisks are not detected properly during the POST.

Hey guy. The XT models support DDR3 ram, so in your case your only option with the GA-MA790X-UD4P is DDR2 ram. Some motherboards have occasionaly had support for both ram types but they always have two different kind of ram slots on board and less of each.

Check out this comparsion link for even more info: Newegg.com - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, Digital Cameras and more!

I'm not affiliated with newegg, just a mere fan :)

elma, do the guy a favor and start your own thread.

EDIT: i checked those reviews; the one guy that claims he's using DDR3 didn't puchase it at newegg. i think he'd reviewed the wrong model and the rest of those are rumors. You can also search keyword "notch" @ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDR3_SDRAM for further confirmation of slot incompatibility.

This should be the default voltage, which for DDR2 is typically accurate. Performance memory will still run at that voltage but probably at lower spec. It *can* take upwards of 2.2 volts to make use of enhanced timings and speeds. Generally boards that don't immediately support the enhanced performance profiles, should still allow you to set a specific memory divider. And if needed, you can override SPD, bump up voltage (+x increments) and manually dial in specific timings as well. I can't speak of the capabilities for these boards specifically, but this is usually a matter of whether the capabilities were provided in the bios.
