Default Possible to use both the Purple and Yellow SATA ports?

Just want to say pardon me if there's a thread reguarding this already, been doing some searching but only found threads reguarding which of the ppl should use.

Anyway, I've been using a Raid 1+0 Array earlier of 4 320GB disks on the Intel controller. A few days ago I invested in a pair of SSD disks having the tought that I could continue to use those disk as a safe storage for my image and videos and have the two SSD disks on the purple connectors running induvidualy with no raid.

I'm having problem detecting the SSD disks while having them connected as I explained above, just wanted to double check if I'm missing anything here.

Have tested setting SATA RAID/AHCI controller to both raid and AHCI with no luck in getting the SSD disks to show.

The board in question is a Gigabyte EP45-DS5.

Wanted to throw the question here before I start to rewire the whole setup.

They should show up fine, are you using the latest BIOS? You can use both sets of controllers for sure in any manner you like.

Drivers would of course have to be installed for a AHCI or RAID Install on the Purple ones if you are using the Intel ones for your OS. So what you need to do if you have not is plug the SSD's back into the purple ports and then set the BIOS settings per RAID or AHCI. Then go into windows and install the drivers from the Gigabyte site, via the Unknown controller(Properties, update driver) in Device manger

Here is the driver and program all in one (SFX Archive, Extract and Use the Installer or Update drivers only thru device manger from the"Driver" Folder Per your system 32/64) >>
    ftp://download.gigabyte.ru/driver/mo...2raid_ep45.exe

If you would like the driver only and not the app and do not know how to obtain that let me know and I will post it for you

In the bios there is a seperate section for the Intel SATA and Gigabyte Sata.

Make sure you set 'Onboard Sata' to AHCI and not IDE. Its not the top Sata option you need to change as this is just the yellow (intel) sockets.

    Ya, Thanks!

I guess I should not have assumed he knew which was which incase he did not!!

Here is which are which in the BIOS >>>

    Integrated Peripherals

    Intel Controller (Yellow Ports)
    SATA RAID/AHCI Mode (Intel ICH10R Southbridge) .............
SATA Port0-3 Native Mode ................................... Enabled (or Disabled, both will work)

    Gigabyte/J.Micron Controller (Purple Ports)
    Onboard SATA/IDE Device (GIGABYTE SATA2 Chip) .............
Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode (GIGABYTE SATA2 Chip) ...........

    Lsdmeasap,
Thought I had it figured out, but now I'm confused. My OS is on a single drive on the Intel controller, plus I have a raid-1 array on the jMicron (purple) controller without using any drivers other that what came with on the Gigabyte disk. Works fine.

My question: Do I need the drivers you recommended earlier in this thread?

    TIA,

    E8400 w/ stock cooling

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 80gb on Intel controller (incl. the system partition)
    2x WD SE16 640gb raid-1 on jMicron controller
    XP x64
    and some other stuff

Well the ones that come on the disk you used for the Gigabyte/J.Micron Controller would be the same ones I linked above, just a older version is all.

Linked above is a SFX Archive, contains the Gigabyte RAID Program installer, or just the drivers if you do not wish to install the program. You can update your drivers to the new ones linked above via device manager if you like

Thanks for your fast reply. I may have another question about these sata controllers, but I'll post it in a new thread once I figure out what the actual questions is...
