    Default Freeze at 100% cpu usage

    hey you guys helped me with my overclock a while back. so here i am!

    Whenever my cpu usage hits 100% while gaming it starts to freeze up / move very slow / do weird things / etc......i thought this was normal
    However i recently found out that most games run your cpu at 100%, while i've been doing my settings to sit around 80%. Even when around 80%, some event will occur that spikes it to 100 and it can't come down. The only way to continue playing is to hope i can Alt+tab out so the usage goes down and go back in to continue playing at the ave 80%.

    what picqued my interest was playing assisins creed recently it worked really well. I had the settings maxed which rarely works for me. Then one day it started freezing up, and now matter how low i put the settings it will always hit that 100% problem. so it used to work, now it doesn't...

    From what i have read this can be a number of things
    malware
    overclocks
    outdated drivers
    virus software checking files
    are the most common

    It couldn't be malware as this was an issue from the beginning. I will say tho that recently i did have some malware but got rid of it.

    My drivers for my video card are updated.

    I've tried taking some of the OC settings off but it doesn't seem to help

    My last question is related to the motherboard bios. When i first loaded i didnt' set and fail safe defaults. Is there any way to set those now? I also don't know how to set the optimized defaults which i assume are my current settings.

    Well for starters you should have loaded optimized defaults, not fail safe. If you did that, then that is fine. Sounds like just incorrect Memory settings, or voltages for either CPU or ram

    Please post me a link to your ram or give me the model # and then fill this out with what settings you are using and we can advise back >>>

    Doing some recent reading i was reminded that i should probably put a fan on my northbridge. So i cracked open my case and remembered why i didn't...

    It doesn't feel hot to the touch, but it is a bit more loose then i'd like. I think my huge arctic cooler does the job for me.
    Do i need to worry about this if it doesn't even feel hot?

    You should point your CPU fan so that the hot air is expelled out the back of your case thru the exhaust fan.

    Your NB Should be fine without a fan. If you think it is COLD then that is a issue. Can you run memtest86+ or orthos for a hour and then touch it and see if it is warm yet or not. If it is still cold then that may mean the contact has been broken from the NB Chip and you will need to redo the paste

    Fail Safe should never be loaded in my opinion. Yes, you have to load optimized defaults when ever you build a system or flash the BIOS. Please see here for info on that, and steps you may need to pay attention to when loading optimized and saving/applying >>>

    Yes, you must do this. Then save and apply/reboot, then go set your disk settings again and then reboot back to the BIOS to make your MIT Changes

    BIOS F10 has been pulled from all GA Servers, I do not know why but there must have been a reason. I suggest you go to F9 >>>

Not that your ram is bad or anything, but you did choose budget 1.8V CAS 5 Ram so it may not like this at all. Use 2.00D for a while and see if that helps. Of course that may not matter once you make other changes, you wouldnt be able to be sure unless you go back to 2.00B later.

    * SIDE NOTE* (In the middle )
    You do know this is 555-18 1.8V ram correct? I just wanted to check because you are using 444-12 and 2.0v, that may be fine and work but may also not work at all and could be your issue. Either way you are way out of spec for this ram, and I just wanted to make sure if you were aware of that or not

    The northbridge is very warm, but i could leave my finger on it forever. So i will assume that it is ok and not bother memtesting.

    My fan is pointed up because i have another identical fan on top of my case (antec p182). I'm at work right now but i think my ram won't let me position the fan to blow out the back. Temps have always been fine 36 idle 50 load. and i've got the artic silver paste.

    When i get home (longest work day ever) i'll flash my bios with a USB. Howerver I am anticipating a problem i have with usb.

    Whenever i boot my computer up and i have a usb hdd attached (be it mp3, external or thumb) It will enter an endless loop as it if tries to boot from the USB. It was suggested that i enable cd boot but that didnt' do anything.....have you ever encountered this before?

    If all else fails i can partition my hdd. USB is just the easiest and its already loaded up.

    (oh and i'll double check my ram when i get home, i swear i bought the 44412 version, didn't know 55518 exsisted)

    Not really sure what the heck i was doing last night but i also incorrectly listed my mother board model number. It is a GA-EP45-DS3L...........
    I guess i backspaced one too many times.



    Pretty sure that would have ruined my board, I'll be using the F10 version again as it is the latest listed here.

    Q-flash worked perfectly and i did optimized and then changed everything back.

    I did find out that my RAM was the 44412 so i've kept those settings, but i will try some runs with 2.00D. I also changed it to the stock of 2.1V.

    so really all i changed was that RAM voltage and the clock skews for cpu and mch.

    here is some documentation on trying to run assasins creed. I'm also trying TF2 because AC seems buggy and TF2 is way better

    running fine on decent settings for a couple minutes

    90% load average
    46C cpu temp
    700mhz gpu load
    80C gpu
    gpu fan 78 %
    gpu fan rpm 1800 ( this has always confused me, regarless of the fan % my rpms are always 1800

    -When it freezes-
    one core is 75%
    the other core drops to 30%
    still 1.248V
    GPU readings are the same except its 64C

    Updates:
    1.248v steady no matter what i do
    assasins creed isn't freezing as bad, but when it starts to get really choppy my GPU load drops to 0? say what?
    TF2 is working great. One of the best games to play with friends + brews.
    More extensive testing to come this weekend because our camping trip got rained out D:

    I wouldn't consider my build stable just yet. I guess my two main concerns are my gpu load dropping whenever something big happens (i can't find anything on this), and the fact that my vcore is 1.248 no matter what my computer is doing. But any other tweaks or inconsistensies you notice that slipped by me, or slapped me in the face and i just didn't notice them
    I definitely appreciate your noggin knowledge

    Edit: after trying stuff out this weekend Its a little bit more stable but still doesn't like me. I'm out of ideas and wish i could just get a new videocard
