    They cover a program called netlimiter amon other things
    that i dont use.

    Okay i never read all thriugh it.
    if you select internet protocal version 4 and its properties button greyed out, doesnt allow you to check its properties its likely a damaged system.

    in xp look at network conections properties tcp ip and see if can access the properties with the properties button.

    Network connections is a control panel so there are no properties for it.

    Properties for Local area connection I cant find a mention of ip v4

    you right click on the lan adaptor(realtek) then click properties its in there tcpip.
    its not specifically designated 4 on xp.

    Anyway put mouse pointer on internet protocol tcpip and click once if the adjacent properties box stays whited out and you are unable to click on the properties box to open properties for internet protocol tcp ip then the stack is damaged and the os must be roloaded.
