I'm typing right now from systemrescuecd, I just booted it to backup my system. I have xpress recovery 2 and use it to have an easy way to restore my system to a stable configuration. It does really backup only one partition, but it is enough for me. To backup the whole system I use systemrescuecd ( Main Page - SystemRescueCd ): it has a partition manager (gparted) and an tool to backup partitions (partimage). It is really customizable (actually my installation is on an esata drive, I wrote a simple autorun script by myself to backup on boot). You'll find all of the needed info on the side. And it is free software. It saved me huge headaches.
