Default GA-P35-S3G refuses CPU factory settings

    Hi,

I am in desperate need for help as I have performance problems.

I have bought a Q6600 for this motherboard but it refuses to run on the factory settings (2.4Ghz), instead it automatically sets itself to 1.6Ghz and no matter what I do in the tweak option it will set itself back to 1.6Ghz all the time.

I have tried to update BIOS to F5 but it did not work, just like the previous versions.

After I removed the battery and cleared the CMOS it recognized the factory settings but as soon as I booted winXP and launched cpu-z to monitor the CPU, the multiplier started to waving from 9 to 6 and then stuck at 6 again. Immune to any tweaks in the BIOS just like before and stucked with a gimped specs now:(

    Please help.

That's perfectly normal, it's a power saving feature called EIST (Enhanced Intel SpeedStep). The board will automatically drop the CPU multiplier to 6 and lower the CPU voltage in idle.
Donwload something like Prime95 and run it and you will see the multiplier going up to 9.

    Thanks for the quick answer.

I am aware the EIST effects, however my problem is that it stuck at CPU multiplier 6 even if there is a stress test. Doesn`t switch back when running applications and overwrites the BIOS. Whenever I change the CPU tweak settings in BIOS and restart the computer and entering to the BIOS immediately, all my changes are non-existant according to it. I am not even entering to Windows.

Just struggling to make it run on factory settings... which is funny if I consider the fact that I bought the CPU for overclocking.

    Finally, problem solved.

It seems like the OS was involved in the CPU`s power management decisions and basically overwrite every BIOS settings I have made.

With the help of a software I have managed to tackle the problem and the BIOS follows the settings I make.
