Red face Overclocking with EP45-UD3R and Q6600

The system has run without incident for a couple weeks at 3.2GHz, which is really nice. As soon as I figure out how to do the fancy posting of all of the BIOS settings, I'd like Lsd to look at them and give me your opinion. Haven't stressed the system yet pending such a review. Don't wish to overdo it with Prime95 until the settings are reasonable. Lsd, I used your 3.2GHz suggested settings from another post but want an expert opinion before putting the pedal to the metal.

If all goes well can 3.4GHz be far behind? It may be as one core tends to run up to 10 deg C hotter than the coolest core. And yes, I've reseated the CPU cooler a couple of times in both horizontal and vertical positions. It is vertical right now and seems to be as cool as it has ever been. It gets chilly in the desert at night so my temps are much better now at 3am but Core #0, in the last hour has hit 44 deg while core #3 has reached 35 deg. Add 6 to 8 deg to both and you have mid afternoon temps as I have to run the air conditioner at 80 deg F lest I go broke from the electric bill.

We almost hit 100 a couple days ago which is about a month ahead of schedule. BTW, this is monitoring with CPUID Hardware Monitor. If another monitor is more appropriate, then I'll change to it.

Hearing no opinions, don't know if I'm on the right path or not...would like to move on to 3.4GHz then stop. Am still trying to gain information but the purpose of each adjustment and the rationale for changing them one way or the other still escapes me. I saw a post regarding 3.4GHz, but why are the settings the way they are and can they be better? Please, help welcome!

Sorry, I have been really far behind lately and bills left me without a internet for almost a week this past week.

I would suggest you use Everest Ultimate, or RealTemp or CoreTemp for monitoring your core temps. CPU temp is not what you want to worry about. You can get any of those apps here >>
    http://forums.tweaktown.com/f69/late...y-tools-30530/

Those settings (RAM) all are very loose and should not give you any issues, but at 425 FSB you may need to move down to 2.00B/D or 2.40B multi

You will need more Vtt (Termination) as you raise FSB and more vcore of course. I would leave all Ref voltages on Auto for now

With those thoughts you should be able to just bump to 425 FSB, if you have any issues let me know and I can give you a full set of suggestions

Ouch on the Internet....know you're busy and do appreciate your help. When I read the first post here, I downloaded every one of the programs that have been mentioned more than once.

The Prime95 has run over an hour at 3.2GHz. Will run more with more time but am doing some major disk cleanup and dataset placement work that is long overdue.

The Mushkin seems to be very good memory. Am running it at 1.8V even though it is advertised at 2.0V to 2.1V. Will consider, what is it called? tightening up the timings to see if the sticks will take it. 5-5-5-15 right now at 1.8V. Need to check out how hot they get. I did check one day and they were only lukewarm.

I have published my 3.2 settings, so interested in any comments, where I might trying to increase or decrease voltages so I can attempt, for me, the final assault at 3.4GHz. All right, if 3.6 were possible with my cooling setup, I wouldn't complain. Just am not sold on my CPU cooler, have changed the orientation 3 times and the amount of Arctic Silver 5 a couple times.. It did NOT like the BB sized drop. Just guessing that the "valleys" between the heat pipes and the heat block are pretty darn big and wonder how much the area that is not in contact with the CPU has for an effect on the cooling. Seems like that should somehow be re-engineered. That BB drop was pretty much gone by the "valleys" on each side of the middle pipe.

Brings up another couple points. Both the thermal compound and the cooler...suggestions over and above the Arctic Silver 5 or that is sufficient. I really like the engineering on the Cooler Master V10. I realize the temps are not that great, hovering around 50 deg. But if that TEC device kicks in that should keep it at 50ish and not go higher. To me 50ish at 3.4 or 3.6 might be not bad at all. Opinions? It is darned expensive. On a side note, hate the pin approach that my cooler uses for motherboard attachment. Even if I have to remove the board, would like to see a back brace. My cooler is supposed to be ok, just not impressed so far.

So as always, thoughts, opinions and the offer of a beer are welcome!

another cooler that had nice engineering was the Vigor Monsoon III. Opinions?

Do mean Vcore? Still working on lingo. If so set to 1.3V...Expect that would be considered low? The Intel specs say 0.85V to 1.5V

Run an app called 'CoreTemp', it will tell you what the chips VID is.

With that VID you should be able to get a good OC.
IMO 3.6 should not be a problem for you.

With my chip I can get a 3.2Ghz stable overclock using the stock settings and simply changing the FSB to 400 x 8

My VID is 1.3125 and I am able to get 3.6Ghz.....
takes 1.5 vcore but its stable and I have a good cooler to keep my temps in check.
