Default Q9400 and UD3P Overclock suggestions

I'm just pushing this to something comfortable that both my processor and Ram can do. I have it at 3.32 now, but I don't think prime95 or OCCT likes it much. Does anyone see anything that is out of wack in my settings? Air cooling Xigmatek 1283 with standard fan, Antec EarthWatts 500w. Settings seem stable in everyday use. Is this enough info? TIA

This looks like you initially loaded FAIL-SAFE settings. FAIL-SAFE settings should NEVER be used. Load OPTIMIZED settings and then re-enter your current settings.

Try increasing Cpu Vcore by 1 or 2 settings.
MCH Core causes instability if it's too high or too low. Try 1.05, 1.22, or 1.24 volts.

    CPU Termination…..... 1.200V*.......: 1.1 <-- is 1.20 displayed in your bios?
Set this to the value displayed in your bios.

    Static tRead Value
Is this set to AUTO on both channels? <-- 7 will work, 6 should work

Check your dram voltage, you should be able to increase it to 1.92 volts.
Some memory runs better at lower settings.
Include a link to your rams specs.

    Post a screen-shot that includes:
Memset using the SPD and ">>" panels
    cpu-z main screen
EasyTune6 using TUNER tab --> Advance tab --> VOLTAGE tab

Please update your signature to include your system components including your mobo revsion #, bios version, cpu cooler, etc.

I don't have the screen shot yet, but I do have my rig in my signature. Loaded Optimized defaults
    • Moved FSB down to 400 making 3.2GHz
    • vCore currently at 1.2
    • Ram at 1.9v
    • CPU Termination 1.2
    • MCH at 1.1 for now
    • Static tRead Value currently set to auto as I was getting the post reboots and failing back to bios failsafes.

Like above I was getting reboots back to failsafes, so I got myself back to where it would boot normally. I need to get the screen shot up and redo the Bios template. Any rough idea what I should be able to get a Q9400 w/ 800MHz DDR2 to hit? I'm guessing pushing the ram above spec would be the hardest part.

If you havent already,go the usual route.

See what the memory will clock to using a multiplier 2.4 being the lowest practical one.
Give your cpu and mch voltage a bit of a bump to get them out of the testing.
mch ..say 1.3 max ,cpu same tho you wont need them that high, but its just to eliminate "gee i wonder if its this or that".

That should give you some leeway.

My old sig was 800 ram at 1000 mhz now im on 980 mhz in the search for max mem bandwidth.

Once you get the max speed your 800 mhz mem will hold(on standard settings and 5-5-5-15) back it down say 20mhz ddr2 speed and see what timings you can get ,5-4-4-15,5-5-5-18 etc or just leave it at 20 mhz below max stable speed at 5-5-5-15 timings ,Then switch to a 2:00 memory multiplier and see how far the cpu will go,etc.

MCH Core = 1.10 volts is probably too low. Try 1.50 - 1.22 volts and see if this helps with stability.

If your memory is stable at 900 MHz, you'll be able to run at 8 x 450 = 3.6 GHz.

    From your ram link:
**OCZ EVP (Extended Voltage Protection) is a feature that allows performance enthusiasts to use a VDIMM of 2.1V ± 5% without invalidating their OCZ Lifetime Warranty.
Set DRAM Voltage = 2.10 volts.

Set Cpu Vcore = 1.25000 volts, more will be needed later.

Test for stability with these settings. Let us know what tests you used and how long each test was run.

Once your system is stable at these settings, we'll go higher.

See this post if you're not familiar with saving and loading bios profiles.
