Angry Help with GA-EP45C-DS3R, won't post reliably

I am having the same problem that others on this forum have had, but I cannot find a post with my configuration.

My computer will not post properly and usually resets multiple times before windows will start. From other posts, I believe I am having a memory configuration problem, but I am not sure.

I am unable to get the system to post at all with the latest F5 bios update and have little better luck with F4. Tech support at Gigabyte is insistant that I should use the F5 version, but I cannot get into bios setup without 20 or 30 resets.

I am using the default (F3) bios settings for this system and I have no desire to overclock anything at this point. Just would like the system to startup when turned on. I returned the motherboard to Gigabyte for them to check and they returned it with the F5 bios and said there was no problem with the motherboard. Took me hours to get back into the bios to revert to F3.

Have talked with Gigabyte tech support numerous times and they have me do all the normal things over and over, reguardless of what I tell them I have done.

    Sorry to run on.

    Here is my system setup:

GA-EP45C-DS3R LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard

    Intel Q9550 Yorkfield 2.83GHz LGA 775 95W Quad-Core Processor

    Mushkin 2 x 2GB DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Model 996599 Timimg 5-5-5-15 Desktop Memory

    XION AXP-800R14HE 800W Power Supply

    EVGA 01G-P3-N984-AR GeForce 9800 GT AKIMBO 1GB 256-bit GDDR3 Video Card

WD Caviar Black WD7501AALS 750GB SATA Hard Drive

    Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit

Rosewill RCR-IC001 40-in-1 USB 2.0 3.5" Internal Card Reader w/ USB port / Extra silver face plate

LG Model GH22LS30 DVD Burner with LightScribe

NZXT TEMPEST Crafted Series CS-NT-TEM-B ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Any assistance that anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance, this is a great forum for support.

Does it work with F5 with only one stick of ram in slot one? If you have not tried that please do until we can advise you further.

Can you give me the model # of your Mushkins, then I can give you full settings that should get you going

    Sorry,
The model of my Mushkin RAM is 996599 and the timing is 5-5-5-15.

Will try the F5 bios with one stick of RAM and get back with the results.

I really appreciate all the assistance being offered to me.

Please update your forum signature with the hardware listed in post #7. This will make it much easier for us.
Each hardware item description can be shortened to include the brand, model/part#, and quantity, such as:

    EP45-UD3P [rev: 1.0] ~ Bios: F6
    2x2GB Mushkin XP2-8500 [996599]
    Evga 7600GT video card

Did you load OPTIMIZED settings after your F5 bios flash?
    It looks like you did.

Here's a quick test, still using 1 memory module:

(G)MCH Frequency Latch...............: 400 <--- set this to AUTO
System Memory Multiplier ..............: 200D <--- set this to AUTO
Memory Frequency (Mhz) ..............: 667 <--- this should now show 1066

Save settings and exit. Boot into windows. Any problems?

    If there are no problems:

    Shutdown.
Power off your computer by unplugging the power cord from your psu.
Press and hold the front panel on/off switch for 5 seconds.
Install the other memory module. Slots #1 and #3 should now have the memory installed.
Plug in your computer and see if it boots into windows.

Let us know how you make out.
You have excellent taste in memory selection.

    profJim,

Thanks for the pointers, I have edited my signature. Please let me know if I should change anything else.

I did use the optimized setting after the upgrade to F5. I will make your suggested changes tonight when I get home from work. My system is already working better than it has since I got it. I guess I thought these things would just work with defaults.
