Default First Time overclock-Q9400-help with settings please

I am looking to try a first time overclock of my system. I did have some trouble with some ram some months back (which everyone at tweaktown helped with), but now all is running fine.

So now to experiment........ I've read the information on overclocking but don't feel 100% confident that I can complete a small overclock, and would like a little guidance.

I am just wanting a small overclock up to 3ghz fro the default 2.66, and what Ive read this should be achievable with no major additions to cooling.

Would someone be able to give me some settings to adjust to get me on my way please? I would really appreciate it.

    Details are below.

Try this for 3Ghz ram will be underclocked to 1200 so you may be able to run 888-24 or lower >>>

Disabled the C1E and EIST, set the numbers mentioned, but it still shows 2666mhz.on CPUZ. It did take some extra time to boot, but when I went back into the bios, the red message box came up , but all the settings appeared to be still set.

    Any ideas?

    Regards

You sure you disabled C1E and EIST?

Did you get a triple reboot, do you see a red warning when you enter the MIT Section of the BIOS now?

If so, you may have just set a timing to low or not enough voltage somewhere, if you see a triple boot or red warning the BIOS will load defaults but you will still see your settings, only with a warning that it failed

I didnt disable it on the first reboot, but went back in and did it. The next reboot, got the triple reboot and booted again and got the red warning when I went back into the bios.

There was one setting that I couldnt see - the ICH Core setting?

    What else should I try?

Not all boards have ICH Core setting, since you are getting triple reboot and defaults are being used you are not using enough voltage.

Your settings will look the same, they just will not be applied until you get things correct.

Try more Vcore and or Vtt and if you still have issues please post back for me the exact settings you are trying that fail and I will advise back

I seem to have run into other issues along the way.

The pc wont boot past the gigabyte screen, and if it does, it completely locks up and wont do anything. I have managed to get into the bios, but even that locks up randomly.I cannot seem to remember the settings I had before.

I have taken out 2 sticks of ram, and the pc booted straight up. Could I have damaged the ram in any way by changing settings?

Is vtt in the ram timing settings?

You can only damage ram with voltages.

Sorry Vtt is CPU Termination, right under Vcore

Thanks for that. Taken 2 sticks out, made the changes, and bingo it was working at 3ghz.Temps seem ok.

What do I do with the ram and how can I fix it so I can use all 4 of the 1gb sticks?

Set ram voltage manually, set MCH as per above, then work on the timings.
