I mean WTF, I don't even wanna try over 533 anymore, I just want stable PC, not skyrocketing frequencies, damnit!

    @Octopuss
533MHz using 2.00B (instead of "D") and tRD = 10 <-- used to be stable?
I think that 2.00D would have a better chance of being stable, and tRD = 9 might work.
You could try my patented 492MHz settings (x 8.0) using 2.00D and tRD=9.

Yes it was. Perfectly stable both CPU and chipset.
    tRD 9 does not work
2.00D strap ALWAYS results in the PC not being able to even POST

I can't think of any acceptable reason why is this happening to me. I ran Small FFTs for a few hours and I assume the CPU is ok - but who knows.
Guess I can eliminate CPU related problems by staying at 4GHz and moving VCORE to 1.36250. But hell if I know what's up with the bloody MCH.

Out of curiosity, what other RAM would you recommend other than my Corsair Dominator? Seems like I could use some 2.00D strap testing, and these modules SEEM not to like it.

    edit: found this: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/C...500C5DF/3.html
Nice review and the modules look like capable of INSANE overclock. DDR1200 at 2.3V? Hell yeah.
If only I could try the bloody D strap :P

I don't know if your D-strap issues are memory related.
Early in this thread, Dan had issues trying to get stable using 450MHz and he couldn't use settings that my E6550 easily handled, but as I recall his problems were memory related. With my setup, I've had no problem using the B- or D-straps from 400 - 528MHz, I just couldn't my system stable above 494MHz with any settings or straps.

My 2x2GB Mushkin XP2-8500 (p/n 996599) has worked well for me, but that doesn't guarantee that you'll have the same results.
FWIW, in Lsdme's Crucial reviews, he achieved some high memory overclocks that I couldn't reach. Granted he used his Unobtanium cpu and an EP45-DS4P mobo as I recall.

    Hum.
From what I remember, I couldn't get D strap to work AT ALL past 485 FSB. I admit I didn't know half what I know today (and I still know crap), but I did briefly try it again recently with no luck. so I really don't know.
Well at least the review I linked assured me I don't need to try higher voltage for whatever reason.
Btw earlier yesterday I tried 8.5x500 and it failed horribly as expected.

Quality 8500 memory can frequently reach 1100+ memory speeds.
My system passed extended stability testing using:
    459 x 7 = 3.2GHz
    459 x 2.40B = 1102MHz (2.02 volts, tRD=8, 5-5-5-15 primary timings)

Brief stability testing using my 2x1GB Ballistix (2.2 volt) memory was stable using:
    492 x 7 = 3.4GHz
    492 x 2.40B = 1181MHz (2.2 volts, tRD=9, 5-5-5-15 primary timings)

    Just a thought, 9 x 460 = 4.14GHz, sounds awfully good to me.

Naah, too low FSB! Low memory performance :)
And naturally I dislike asynchronous mode...

Firstly I need to solve the instability mystery. I would have no problem accepting having to raise MCH by one step from rather low 1.26 to 1.28. But first this and then not even 1.3 being enough? Hell no.

There might be a happy middle ground with a mid-high 400 FSB using the 2.00B or D memory multipliers, with a "reasonable" MCH Core setting.
I have a feeling that we will be seeing some further tweaking.
    Have fun!

Well yeah. The key thing here is the fact that a stupid machine must NOT win over a human.
IF I can get 8.5x500 stable, I'd be happy.
Well, there will be some quick tweaking in the evening.
