Default EP45-UD3P hangs at post with Q9650 but works with Q6600

My first post here, so please be gentle
Anyways, as the title states, I cant get my new board to run with my Q9650, which, ironically, is the main reason I bought this board, to OC the crap out of it. but I cant even post with it installed, however, the board posts fine with the Q6600.I dont have the OS installed yet, I want to make sure I can run this chip on this board before I get carried away with RAID 0 and multiple OS'.
    BIOS is F9
Memory is Patriot Extreme 2x2GB 1066Mhz
    GPU is EVGA GTX 285
    PSU is SilverStone Strider ST-1000NV
    Keyboard is Logitech G15
I did not connect any HDD's, opticals or external USB's, mininal hardware only.
what happens is this, with Q9650 installed, the post gets stuck at the splash screen, no keys respond and the only thing I can do is turn it off, sometimes the board doesnt even get to the splash screen, only keeps rebooting indefinitely. I tried with one stick of ram only, no luck, tried my other OCZ reaper kit, no go.
Now, when I replace the CPU with Q6600, it posts fine, Im able to go into BIOS and all. so what I did was with Q6600 installed, I disabled the splash screen. but when I replace the CPU, I still cant fully post, however, I get this little post message:

    CPUID:0001067A PATCH ID:0A07

I have read countless reviews on this board and was really stoked when I bought it. I replaced my EVGA 780i, which works flawlessly, but does not OC much, the most stable I could get with it on Q9650 was 3.8Ghz.
I really want to get this mobo going, but if I cant get it to work with my Q9650, I will have no choice but to return it and get something else.
    Please help me

Boot with your Q6600 and then apply the settings in this post.
Pretend that you're overclocking and use all of the suggested settings.
Save the settings and install your Q9650.

Try using a PS2 keyboard instead of a USB keyboard until things are sorted out.

Have you tried clearing your CMOS? Removing your mobo battery for 20 minutes or longer?
Do you have 1 stick of DDR2-800 memory (1 GB or smaller) to test with?
Can you test your Q9650 in another mobo?

One other thing you can try:
    1) Load OPTIMIZED settings with your Q66000
    2) Save settings and exit.
    3) Turn off your computer
    4) Turn off your psu with the switch at the back of the psu
    5) Unplug the external power cable from your psu
    6) Press and hold the on/off switch on the front of your case for 5 - 10 seconds
    7) Install your Q9650
    8) Leave your system unplugged for 15 - 30 minutes or longer
    9) Reconnect the power cord and boot

Sometimes the unplug/wait/boot procedure needs to be performed several times.

I have tried those several times, alhthough not for as long as u have suggested(20 min). I had the battery out for 5 min and I shorted the + and - terminals with a screwdriver to discharge the static faster, but no change. the Q9650 works in my 780i board. as far as the memory goes, the 2x2 Patriot kit thats listed works well with Q6600, however I also tried a single stick of 512MB Patriot 1066 ram as well as a single stick of 1Gb OCZ Reaper ram, but no luck.

like I said in the OP, the most I get at post with Q9650 is this message below the bios version and CPU identification rows

    CPUID:0001067A PATCH ID:0A07

googling this message yielded few results, but it somewhat gives me an idea that the board might not be fully compatible with this chip.

The Gigabyte website shows that your Q9650 has been supported since bios F4. There are quite a few Q9550 systems on our forum. Lsdme is the forum guru, I'll PM him and see what he has to say.

    **edit** PM sent.

Do you have any external USB Devices connected? If so disconnect them, and w/ the Q6600 installed disable Legacy USB Storage Detect. I see you mentioned this, but just wanted to check for sure and have you always doing this until you get squared away

Seems very odd for sure as the CPU is supported and working, as is the ram!! ?

Can you, or have you tried BIOS F8 at all? If not, please do and be sure you load and apply optimized after you flash >>

Your CPUID PATCH info is normal, that is what you would see if you disable the logo screen. Just shows the CPU ID is all, it is compatible for sure, if you are for sure using a newer BIOS. Be sure to check using F9 on the MAIN Page of the BIOS when you have the Q6600 in again, it could have failed to post and flashed back in an older BIOS from the backup chip so do check it out.

I also suggest using only a PS/2 Keyboard AND Mouse until you can get it figured out.

Are you using the same Cooler for both installs? If not, maybe the Q9650 is shorting you out, or not fully engaging. I would check this by first checking that the cooler is fully installed and then put the board (OFF the mobo tray) on a wooden table or cardboard box and see if it will start

And I do suggest you try clearing the CMOS using the method I outline here in post # 2 >>
    http://forums.tweaktown.com/f69/bios...h-guide-27576/

20+ minutes is sometimes needed, even with a jumper installed and the PSU Unplugged from the wall.

    thank you lsdmeasap for posting.
all of the external addons are unplugged, I was only running minimal. USB storage was disabled I tried both ps/2 and usb KB and same thing.
the board came with F8 bios, and I flashed it to F9 using the Q6600, hoping it would fix the issue, but it didnt. Yes I was using the same cooler for both CPU's, securing it with backplate, and it had good contact with each CPU(paste was spread evenly on both chips/cooler).
the CMOS was cleared numerous times, including having the battery out for at least 30 mins, and shorting the + and - terminals with a screwdriver, as well as the CMOS pins.
At this point I am thinking that the bios is somehow corrupted(?), so I packed the mobo and Im sending it back to newegg for a replacement.

thank you all for your help
