    Default Stock Q6600 on GA-X38-DQ6 with 2x2GB Corsair 1066 = Fail :(

    Hey all,
I'm back after a long while now... back from my travels...
Had left my machine on basic set and now i'm back for some tuning.
Since I'm here obviously there was a problem, right ? Yes, so here it is....

I'm unable to get a stable Prime95 test running on this rig for more than 4-5 test runs... Memtest works - no errors 5 passes. It's only Prime95 that eludes me...

Even though Prime95 fails, I usually don't have system issues, even while gaming - Just the occasional Vista hang/crash issues, Windows 7 is rock stable and I do all my gaming there.

    Temps for Cores 1,2 ~ 60c
    Temps for Cores 3,4 ~ 54c
    Mobo on Load - 40
GPU on Idle - 50 (while running Prime95)

CPUZ reports 1.31v under load when BIOS set to 1.35.

    MemTest86+ 2.17 reports DDR2 at 533, 5-5-5-15 4740Mb/s, all tests pass.

Specs of the machine are in my signature. Ignore the 2GB Corsair, i've removed it as it was a different spec, I'm trying to get this working on stock first, before trying the exotic combination again.
    The RAM now on is TWIN2x4096 (2x2GB) 5-5-5-15 1066Mhz 2.1v

Here's what I've set in the BIOS
    Code:

Further to this I've tried the following:
    MCH Overvolt - +0.10, +0.15, +0.20, +0.25
    FSB Overvolt - +0.10, +0.15

I've seen that my CPU volts doesn't make an difference to the condition,
hence for now I've reduced this to 1.2625v, it still clears all mem test.
    I've tried ranges - 1.25, 1.2625, 1.275, 1.2825, 1.28, 1.30, 1.325, 1.35, 1.3675 all on stock 266x9, still no luck.

Sorry for my late reply here, and that no one else has chimed in to offer advice!!

Can you please post a screenshot of Memset so we can see what all those Auto's are actually giving you >>
    Tweakers.fr ~ Memset

Your settings do not look to bad really, have you tried +0.25-0.3V MCH Voltage, with +0.1 FSB? If you have not please try that while you wait on a reply back

Can you please check and let us know what BIOS you are using as well. You can check in the Mainboard tab of CPU-z or on the MAIN Page of the BIOS by pressing F9

Corsair RAM passing memtest but failing Prime and crashing applications... I've had that too. With the very same memory modules.

Send them back to Corsair, a lot of people have had trouble with them. I have 8GB and had to send both kits back. The new ones work without a hitch.

No worries mate, maybe people were busy in other threads.

    I've tried FSB +.1 for MCH +.20.
I'll try +0.25 tonight with this combo and +0.30 also.

I'm using F8 currently. F9 is beta so I haven't downloaded this one yet.

    MemSet image is attached.

Edit: I might consider returning them, if nothing I do here works. When you contacted Corsair, did they give you any trouble saying that Memtest was working so it should be fine ?

Maybe the Performance Level tRD of 6 is causing the issue with the 4.00 multi, have you tried with 7-8?

What is your actual applied ram voltage from the +3.-.35 settings? You can check in the PC Health section or with Everest ultimate, maybe it is actually alot lower than that

The "RAM Guy" at Corsair's forums wasn't particularly helpful, he suggested that i run them at 800MHz because i have 8GB, and that 4 modules aren't guaranteed to run together unless they are binned as a Quad kit (and of course with a much higher price tag). What a joke.

I bought my RAM from an online store which has its office in my area. I just went to their office, filled the warranty sheet and they took care of the rest for me. I told the guy at the warranty office that memtest passes but applications randomly closes and computer crashes, and he asked maybe i got troubles with my Windows. I told him that they fail under Linux as well. He asked me what distro, i told him that it was Ubuntu. Then he said he'll send them to Corsair for testing.

That was on Monday. On Thursday i had two shiny new kits waiting for me. He told me they were confirmed bad and replaced by Corsair at the factory with tested ones, and indeed, the new kits run fine, they've been going strong for a good couple months.

I tried every freakin' timing in my BIOS on my first set. They just wouldn't work. And although 2.1v is their rated voltage and i ran 2.2 at first because my board undervolts a little, they now seem perfectly happy with 2.0v, which is actually ~1.97. Good RAM needs to have pretty high tolerances, from my own experience with my first pairs of this memory i highly doubt it could be the voltages or anything else.
