    Default Q6600 and EP45 UD3P mild overclock problem

    I've been running a 3.0 ghz overclock for a week with no problems but today I upgraded my old Corsair PC2 6400 memory to 2x2gb sticks of Mushkin XP Ascent PC2 8500.

    Seems to run great at stock settings but when I tried my wimpy little OC I got 3 errors in Prime 95 in 5 or 6 minutes of the blend test.

    The first test I got no errors in 12 minutes off the small FFT test. I'm bound to be doing something stupid. I left most of the memory timings on auto:

    DRAM Voltage must be manually set at manufacturer's volts rating, or slightly higher if overclocking memory speed?

    And Channel A/B Static tRead Values must be manually entered. Start with 10, and if stable then try with 9, and then if still ok, try with 8?

    May also get better overclocking results with MCH Core volts set at 1.20?

    Looks like you have far too many settings on auto. This means that you have your primary timings set incorrectly, tRead will be set to whatever the board guesses will work, which is likely either too low or too high and also driving strength is on automatic which may effect things.

    You don't say in your post what configuration of Corsair PC2 6400 you were using before. Was this 2 x 1GB, 2 x 2GB, or 4 x 1GB? Going from 2 x 1GB to 2 x 2GB would likely require more MCH voltage rather than less, but trying higher and lower would be worthwhile.

    Thanks for the help, guys. I was using 4x 1gb of Corsair but I changed to the optimized defaults when I switched the the Mushkin. The BIOS seemed to see the new memory fine. I have just been running memtest86+ with stock settings and I got error msgs after about 15 minutes so I changed turbo to standard and disabled the extreme memory profile. I still got one error. The bios has the RAM voltage set perfectly.
    I'll try some of these settings and report back.

    So far so good! I'm still stock on the CPU but I got through 30 minutes of memtest86 error free with the manual settings you guys suggested. I'll try more testing tomorrow with Prime 95 etc. Thanks so much for your help.

    Mushkin's generally run best at 2.00 - 2.02, don't use 2.10 volts unless you're overclocking your memory faster than 1100MHz speeds.
    Mine ran fine at ddr2-1104 at the lower voltage settings using the stock 5-5-5-15 primary memory timings.
    Mch Core 1.24 - 1.26 is fine for 2x2GB setups.

    Thanks Jim. Question: If I set my voltage at 2.1 I get 2.05 on the sensor. Are you saying to set the memory at 2v or to set for 2v on the sensor? Sorry for the dumb question...I'm new at this.

    Not a dumb question.
    The value displayed in the PC Health screen is usually a little lower than the setting in your bios.
    Setting your ram's voltage to 2.04 or 2.06 should be fine. Your memory will run best in the low 2.00 range, as shown by the sensors, in the bios or in windows.
