    Default EP45-UD3P w. E5200 OC

    Hello guys!!! First of all I just wanna say Thanks for all the info. It was a great help for my first build and overclock. After several threads I finally managed to oc my 5200 to 3.6 , mainly using fatguy1992's info. I just wasn't sure if I can push it till 4.00Ghz, so I did small changes. Is it ok to push it a bit higher? Here is the info I've noticed is usually needed.

    In all honesty, it's very doubtful you'll see 4GHz with an E5200. the chips were selected to be E5200s for the sole reason that they didn't make the grade for E8xxx series and even E7xxx series CPU's.

    Likely you will need a huge amount of vCore to get 4GHz, probably around 1.5v-1.55v. As always though, you might have gotten lucky. You could very well have a potential E8xxx series CPU, that just had 4MB of its cache test as bad, so intel locked it to 2MB and put it in the E5200 bin.

    Definately as said, enable CPU Thermal Monitor 2(TM2), this will save your processor if temperatures get out of control, and only kicks in at the CPU's TjunctionMax (100c)

    A note on Driving Strength. You won't see any performance hit or gain from having it higher or lower. It depends entirely on the memory module and more specifically the memory ICs used on it as to what driving strength it will need. One setting higher than the current memory speed, or the closest higher value to it is a good starting point. Driving strength controls the strength at which the signal sent to RAM switches, strobes and addresses banks. It's not a memory timing.

    Here's a link to an interesting if rather brief account of overclocking a E5200 on an Asus board. No doubts as to the UD3P being superior, but is it enough to make a difference?

    His max overclock was 4.1GHz, but he had to boot into safe mode. His maximum stable speed on watercooling with 1.55v was 4.06GHz, 61c load temps. If he were on air his CPU would probably be on fire. Doesn't sound like he got the best chip ever, but it's representative of an average quality chip, and what it's capable of.

    Thanks!!! I decided to go with 3.6ghz. I also changed the RAM with OCZ Reaper 4Gb (2x2) PC2 8500.... Newegg.ca - OCZ Reaper HPC 4GB &#40;2 x 2GB&#41; 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 &#40;PC2 8500&#41; Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory

    and stick the old one into a different system. I'm just hoping this will add to stability part and maybe give me room to lower the multiplier in exchange for higher FSB ,if that is even posible. Now, I hope 3.6Ghz is good enough to go with for awhile. Thanks again for the info!!! :)
