That was my first thought when it was found that the USB hard drive was causing the problem.

    Aha! Could you try something?

On the Integrated Peripherals page of the BIOS, disable the "Legacy USB storage detect" setting and see if it will boot without freezing.

Your USB drive will still work in windows just fine, however you won't be able to save your BIOS profiles to this drive, or use QFlash from USB unless you re-enable it.
Seems strange it didn't solve the problem. Would be good if there were any other trouble shooting settings that could enable the connection of the drive at boot.

yea i did that, but i dont know if it worked or not, cuz my external drive ended up being fried. dunno how, its old (at least 4 years) and was kinda abused...

i learned it was fried, cuz i hooked it up to my other computer and i got an error in windows saying that "this device has manfunctioned" yada yada. oh well.

Slightly off topic, but I just read your signature FonduJack.

The Q8200 is a Yorkfield core.

Yorkshire is a county in England. They drink lots of tea and eat pork pies by the way. they also make good bread, with "Nowt Tekken Out". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=raJRe7J5m6g

Torture Test completed 276 tests in 7 hours, 54 minutes - 0 errors, 0 warnings.

So it wasnt quite 8 full hours, but i really wanted to see and i dont think 6 minutes is all that big a deal, and its running perfectly stable.

whats the next step Scotty? beam me up

Now you're stable, the next thing I would do is up the speed to 3.2GHz, again testing for 8 hours or close to it.

With the time at your part of the world being around 9PM, it might be a good idea to leave it testing over night. It will do no harm, you can simply turn off the monitor to save a bit of power. If it does error out over night it will not cause any damage to leave it running until you can manually stop it.

Hopefully your chip will be able to run 3.2GHz on the same 1.2750V Vcore, as mine can.
