    Default GA-EP45-UD3P bricked? wtf

    Hi all,

So i updated the onboard sound on my board last night to the latest driver.
upon the final screen of the install, it asks to reboot or reboot later. I clicked reboot later, because i was just gonna shut down the computer after i was done anyways.

So i do that then shut down the computer. Then i go to bed.

I wake up this morning and turn on the computer then walk away for a bit to grab some breakfast. I come back 10 mins later and it is still on the gigbyte logo screen with the options to go into bios, boot menu, recovery, q-flash, etc.

I try going into the bios by pressing [DEL] no dice. cant go into any of the options. Still stuck.

i try restarting it. does the same thing. sticks on the logo screen.

i then try reseating the ram. unplugging all the drives, removing the mobo battery. still same thing happens. just gets stuck on the logo screen.

All i did was update some software? why would this cause the board to brick?

    specs on my system are:

    GA-EP45-UD3P
Intel core 2 quad 8200 using stock cooler.
    OCZ reaper HPC 4gb (2x2gb) 1066 ram
    EVGA gtx 260 video card
    corsair 750 watt power supply
western digital caviar black 500gb hard drive sata

i dont overclock or anything. and the system was running just fine last night.

    Any thoughts? comments? ideas? explanations?

    Thanks in advance.

Have you tried clearing the CMOS by jumping the reset pins, rather than disconnecting the battery? Just a thought.

If it still borks, try a minimal install. Take the board out of the case to eliminate it being shorted by the metal standoffs or a side pannel. Use one stick of ram in slot 1, connect the HDD, check the HSF is seated correctly. Do you have another GFX card you can use for this too?

I know some of the things I suggest sound like they shouldn't make a difference, but stranger things have happened. A faulty/shorted/poorly seated GFX card can cause issues.

Do you have a PC speaker plugged into the bopard? Any beeps from it?

If easier try the steps with the board in the case first, so if it was a problem like loose GFX, you find out before you unscrew everything.

There are two metal pins above the front panel connectors, to the right.

Connect them together for a couple of seconds with something metal (carefully) like a screw driver or a key.

If you can't find the pins there's a picture in the mobo manual, page 22.

Cool. Did you tet with everything outside the case too? Pop the board on top of the box and set it up.

You may find after your RMA that if your case is shorting something it still won't work.

Best to check to be 100%.

Sweet! You deserve a beer now it's all up and running.

Didn't notice you had a Q8200 too. You should be able to get ~3.2GHz out of it easy and 3GHz on stock voltages with the stock cooler is a breeze. Your GTX 260 will thank you for it. The CPU at sock even bottlenecked my HD4850, so no doubt yours is feeling a little cramped.

Either way, enjoy the beer and the gaming!!
