    Default CMOS error - ep45t ds3r

Hi all, I am havng some issues with my ep45t ds3r and would really appreciate some help!

So I have had my set up running for around 6 months now completely stable. I have a Q9550, EP45T DS3R, GTX280 running on Vista 64. The RAM was 4x 1GB Corsair stuff, however I had serious issues with it and had to underclock it to around 900mhz, while the CPU was OC's to 3.6.

Now everything was fine until today when I bought some new ram, 4GB(2x2) Corsair CM3X2G1600C9DHX so as to remove the bottle neck that my ram had been causing. So I installed it, booted at about 1500 mhz, and everything was fine. Since that was OK, I tried increasing the OC to about 1600mhz for Ram and 4.0ghz for CPU. It didnt like it, and wouldn't boot, so I loaded it back to the previous settings. Now to the problem.

The computer now boots fine, back on the previous settings of about 3.6ghz for CPU and 1500 mhz for ram (with the new stuff). However, it will NOT STOP BEEPING!!! It is doing the two short beeps CMOS error one. And will not stop. And I am about to go iinnnssaannee!!!! It is doing this even though the computer boots, and runs, fine.

I have tried resetting cmos by jumping, and by removing the battery for about 20 mins, and back to factory defaults, fail-safe defaults, as well as original OC settings that were stable. I also updated the BIOS from F3 to F4a in the hope that t may reset it, but it had no effect.

Can someone please help me? What is going on? My guess is that i've somehow shorted the speaker part of the mobo, and it is just stuck beeping, as there doesn't seem to be any problem booting or running Vista.

What can I do? Can I just turn off the speaker as a short term fix? I found some instructions to turn off the 'beep' function in the device manager, but it does not appear in my OS, so that won't work.

Anybody who ca help will have my eternal gratitude!! Sorry about the long post as well.

    Cheers,
    Angus

With your computer off, switch of the power at your psu.
Unplug the external power cord from your psu.
Press and hold the front panel on/off switch for 10 seconds.
Leave your computer unplugged for 10 - 20 minutes.
Optionally, you can remove your battery and short the clear_cmos pins for a minute or longer.

This procedure will normally clear a reboot loop problem and might help.
If you have a speaker hooked up to the mobo's speaker pins you could unplug it, but I'd rather solve the problem rather than hide it.

I assume that you're not getting a bios checksum error message, as this is normally cleared on the following reboot.

Thanks profJim - unfortunately it is still beeping after CMOS values have been cleared using the methods you stated in your last post (I assume that if all BIOS entries have been reset to defaults that is a succesful reset of CMOS?).

Like I said there are absolutely no issues booting, or runnings Vista 64 at reasonable OC (CPU to 3.6ghz), it runs completely stable running prime95 for about 30 minutes (at which stage I just stopped it, it didn't crash), however the entire time it just beeps at me. The beeps are the two short ones that seem to represent CMOS error, but there are no problems booting/running, and it just beeps constantly.

Any other ideas on why this might be happening? And I know that we need to sort out the underlying issue, but in the mean time is there anyway to turn off the BIOS beeping speaker?

Thanks for the fast response and your help!!

Have you tried booting with your old memory?
I've never heard of your continual beeping problem while your system is running fine.

Exact same problem with the old memory, and I have tried combinations of only one stick. It is a bit of a strange problem isn't it...

What do you think i should do? Whereabouts is the mobo beeper speaker located? I reeeallly want to turn it off while I find out how to fix this properly - I need my computer for school work and there is no way I could work with this beeping going on constantly.

It's probably a tiny unit the size of one of the capacitors on your mobo.
Maybe you can muffle it until Gigabyte tech support can help.

Janus Yeh is with Gigabyte Tech Support and is a forum member.
See this thread for Janus Yeh's email address (post #2) or you can try to PM him.

Good luck, let us know how you make out.

Watson: This doesn't make any sense, how can installing memory cause the this problem?

Sherlock Holmes: Elementary my dear Watson, his cpu is overheating because the cpu cooler was partially dislodged when he installed the new memory, and his cpu core temperatures are now over 60 degrees C.

    Watson: How can this be?

Holmes: His cpu cooler probably uses Intel's infamous push-pin method of attachment to the motherboard.

Watson: Could he be hearing one of the fan failure warnings?

Holmes: Possibly, but with my EP45-UD3P, the cpu fan failure sound is one long continuous beep.

Watson: Can't he simply disable this warnings?

Holmes: Of course. He can go into the bios PC Health Status section of his bios and disable these features.

    Watson: That's a simple solution.

Holmes: Not really, he would only be treating the symptoms, not the underlying causes. Put that in your pipe and smoke it Holmes.
Oh, wait, I'm the one who smokes a pipe and wears the funny hat.
