Question Gigabyte X58-UD5 no sound problem, help :(

After with ASUS for a long time, i finally converted to Gigabyte

I have a few problems with my new build, it seems that my sound card, ASUS Xonar D2X not working properly when i attach to the last (orange) PCIE 8x. Sound so low and have to turn the volume to 100%. But when i attach to the 2nd PCIE 16x (blue), it works fine.

I've tried it with my other PC with P5Q Deluxe and it works perfectly fine as well?

The weird thing is, sometime it works, sometime it doesn't just after when i turn it on

Please help, as i want to keep my Gigabyte

    Thanks

    Sounds like a strange problem.

Have you tried your sound card (nice card BTW) in either the PCI-E 1x or PCIE-4x slots near the northbridge heatsink? Getting it to fit in the 1x slot may be difficult as it's a rather big card, but the 4x slot should be OK. There will be little clearance between it and your GFX card, however as long as it fits, ventilation should not be a problem.

Will it fit there? I'll try it right now.

I know it's a weird problem as works fine on the 2nd PCIE 16x. Hope the 3rd PCIE 8X not faulty

    Thanks

Looking at the board on the Gigabyte site and on a youtube vid, it looks as if it should fit in the orange 4x slot. The white 1x is a definate no go it seems as its blocked by the NB heatsink.

If you're unsure about your 8x slot, you can move your gfx card there after setting PEG3 to the first boot slot. A single GPU card will run fine and at full speed on an 8x lane.

I would say there'd be no problem at all. Does the sound card have a fan? I can see a round shape on the plastic cover, but can't make it out from the photos I've seen. A sound card of any quality and type shouldn't need much cooling, and as long as there's a small gap (4-10 mm) you should be good, even more so if a fan is present. Air flow to the fan will be restricted a bit but not blocked completely. It won't effect the 4890's cooling as obviously the HSF intake is on the opposite side to the sound card.

Just tried it on PCIE 16X and doesn't work now but works fine on ASUS board? Is there something in Gigabyte BIOS?

It may be that there's a device conflict.

You could try loading optimized defaults in the BIOS and testing again.

Did that the same. 1 thing i notice when the sound card click (turn on and off) i can hear the click noise from my speaker as well?

I can hear something when i play music from speaker but really faint and need to be at 100% volume and its really faint as well? Seems there's not enough power?
