    Default SB700 driver not installing

I have a GA-MA780G-UD2H motherboard and i am using windows xp pro.
I installed all the system drivers from the gigabyte cd after installing windows.
When i look at device manager it tells me that the SB700 driver is not installed.
I went to the gigabyte website and downloaded the latest driver and installed that,it said that the driver was installed correctly.
But again going back to device manager it said that no driver was installed.
I had the same problem with a GA-MA770-UD3 board and thinking the board was faulty changed it for the GA-780G-UD2H board but i still have the same problem.
I used to work in a computer shop and have built and repaired hundreds of pcs but i am running out of ideas for this problem.
Maybe one of you guys is not as thick as i am and can help.
    Thanks

Have you tried manually installing the driver through Device Manager? Update driver > Browse > Let me pick from a list > Have disk. Brouse to the location of the inf file and let it install. Re-boot and check if it's installed correctly.

Yes i have tried installing it through device manager via update driver and after a reboot it still says no driver is installed for SB700.
I have a 7750+ black edition cpu which i was using in a ga-57sli motherboard and i was getting scores of over 120.000 with aquamark3.
But as this was only an am2 board i decided to get a board that was am2+ thinking that i would get better performance.
The aquamark score is down to 84.000 with the GA-MA780G-UD3H board.
I was told today from a dealers technician that the 7 series of boards did not like windows xp pro and that he could not install the SB driver using xp pro either which i find hard to believe.

Looking on the AMD forum, there's a post about this issue there.

AMD Game Forums - AMD SB700 Low SATA performance

Don't know if any of that would be of help. The suggestion to download the driver directly from AMD might work, not sure.
I do know that the chipset driver isn't necessary under Vista, but that doesn't really help.

If all else fails, you could have a little fun trying out Windows 7 RC and see if the PC performs better under it.

I'm running the RC and get better performance across the board compared to both XP (Media Centre with SP3) and x86 & x64 Vista.

I will try windows 7 and see what happens.
