    Question EP45-UD3R Build1.1 RAM:G.SKILL DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) slot 3 and 4, Duel Channel Issue

    Looking to run a stable configuration using 8GB (4 x 2GB) of G.SKILL DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) ram and use the 4 ram slots (4 x 2GB). Getting close to my 30 days... Need to know if this MB is a dud. I have been reading the posts and I see some similar posts with the UD3P with G.Skill but not the R board.

    Testing: All tests Ram @ 1066 and Q9550 Yorkfield @ 2.83 (no Overclocking)
    Slot 1.. only...Tested each stick alone in slot one and computer boots. (no issues)
    Slot 1 and 2..... Tested two sticks in several stick swapping config in slot one and two and computer boots.
    Bios sees both sticks looks ok.
    After post continues to run in single mode.. functioning correctly don’t have the 1 and 3 or 2 and 4 slots used.

    Slot 1,2,3..Several attempts swapping sticks... computer does not post or get into bios. Seems to power and shut down.

    I've not really seen this issue before. I have seen posts where inserting RAM in 1 and 3 doesn't work but 2 and 4 does.

    You definately need more MCH voltage for 8GB, so maybe that's the cause. Insert two sticks into 1 and 2 so you can access the BIOS and set MCH Core voltage to at least 1.200V, maybe up to 1.24-1.26 with 8GB. I'd also set your RAM to its maximum VDIMM of 2.1V for now, you may be able to lower it later.

    Also set the timings under Standard Timing Control manually to your specs of 5-5-5-15.

    Hopefully this may allow you to populate all the DIMM slots.

    I have the same ram you have but with the ud3p board, but they should behave the same.

    Further to Psycho's excellent sugestions. Try changing your sTread for both channels from auto to 9 or 10.

    Also try changing your system memory multiplier from auto. Right now, it is probably using 3.2B. Try it manually, then try 2.00D. Keep the mch latch on auto. When at 2.00D you will be running ram 1:1, and underclocking your ram, but we just want to see if you can at least boot up and run some tests at least with all 4 sticks. You can further tweak later.

    Leave pci express frequency on 100.

    Leave your command rate at 2 for now.

    I need some help. I purchased this Gskill F2-8500CL5D ram and setup from NewEgg and my 30 days is up Friday. Will this RAM work in this system. I have read that it works in the EP45-UD3P but have not had any success populating the 4 dimms with your ram EP45-UD3R. I don’t know if it’s a power issue or just the setting are not good. TIA! Please reply all so that I can get this at home.

    No if you are going to use 4 DIMM 8GB, this motherboard EP45-UD3P will not run at DDR2 1066 with 8GB because the way this motherboard built. I suggest you slow it to DDR2 1000. The setting you use for bios looks good and you don’t need to change anything now.<o:p></o:p>

    I found a suggestion from one of the groups was to put the RAM in numerical serial number order and it is in numerical order from Dimm 1,2,3, 4.

    Have not run any further Testing for tweaking values. Any suggestions what values to start with? Any specific sequence? I would like to eventually do the load tests and have the RAM running faster, at least close to spec 1066 further testing needed to ensure that the system is running stable. Will do further posts to form with better results.

    Ya, it is very hard to run 8GB at 1066, 900-1000 is much easier and will give you just as much performance. The good trade off is that at slower speeds you will be able to use better timings.


    I would try 2.40B first for 800Mhz and see if you can run that since you are only using 333 FSB, then next work on Static tRead Value. If you get the B strap running you should be able to use 7-8 I would imagine, not sure about 7 with 8GB though. More MCH and or Vtt would also likely be needed as you tighten timings.

    I'm having an identical problem with Gigabyte G31M-ES2L with the Q9550 CPU. I only have 2 DDR2 slots, but anything in slot 2 (forcing dual channel) makes the system give a DRAM error and it won't boot. No end of RAM tweaking has helped on my end. Did you ever get this to work? IMHO, it's the Q9550. Every post I've seen on this problem involves that CPU.
