Default INstall problem - All windows versions -BSOD - EP45-UD3P

Install fails with BSOD on Vista x64 Ultimate or XP Professional.

I am trying to do the initial build of a machine with the following hardware:

    GIGABYTE EP45-UD3P
    Intel Q6600
G.SKILL F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK (tried with both sticks or just one stick)
    NVIDIA 9800GTX+
    HITACHI 1T SATA HD
SUPER WRITER OPTICAL DVD Burner (SATA)
    BFG LS550 PSU

I am consistently getting a BSOD with the following error 0x0000000A . If i crank the DRAM Voltage to 2.08, then i get a 0x00000D1 error referencing PCIIDEX.SYS or atapi.sys. I have RMA'd one board for this problem so i am begging to suspect that is something other then the board. I am using the yellow SATA ports and i have slip streamed the SATA drivers onto the XP install CD as well.

I have also run memtest on each stick of RAM for 9+ hours and no errors on either stick, and i have unplugged the HD audio and the USB from the front of the case.

PLEASE HELP I am so frustrated... :(

Follow the suggested bios settings in this post and follow the remaining procedures.

Once you've posted your bios settings using the generic bios template, we can offer suggestions. Be sure to make it perfectly clear which bios settings are using the AUTO setting and which settings you've manually set.

Include a link to your ram's specs and update your forum signature with your hardware components.

Have you tested each stick of RAm in every RAM slot? It may be that you have a defective RAM slot, however if you're on your second board, this is probably not the problem.

You may require mre then the default 1.1V MCH Core Voltage, try setting this to 1.2V to start with.

below is a BIOS template for the UD3P (I have the same board). Enter the settings as seen below, after first loading Optimized Defaults:

That should give you a stable stock system, and allow you to install XP or Vista. If installation still fails, try updating your BIOS to version F9 available on the Gigabyte website. Use Qflash from a USB stick, it's the most reliable way to flash. After flashing, again [B]you must load Optimized Defaults before entering the settings in this template.

If your problem still continues I would suspect the RAM to be faulty. It can happen even to new sticks. Try to borrow another set of RAM if you can, even one stick will be fine.

Done. Plus add my hardware to signature. I attempted to change my settings to those of Psycho101 to no avail.

Although the error has changed to PFN_LIST_CORRUPT

    0x0000004E

I am going to try and swap out the memory with something from work, just to be safe. When i try and do a Vista Ultimate x64 install, before i even get into the install it BSODs right after the initial bar fills up with a 0xA error.

You didn't include a link to your ram's specifications, which makes it quick and easy for us to verify appropriate settings.

Here are some suggested changes that might help. Make only 1 change at a time and test.

    1) MCH Core = 1.20 <-- try 1.22 - 1.24 (1.05 might be needed)
    2) System Memory Multiplier = 4.0A <-- try 3.0A which will run your ram at 800MHz
    3) DRAM Voltage = 2.08 <-- try 2.10 or 2.12 if your ram is rated 2.00 - 2.10 (2.00 might help)

Did you run Memtest86+ for an extended test with both modules installed?
Is your memory installed in mobo slots #1 and #3?

When you post your results, detail the problem for each test. BSOD error code, boot problem, etc.

    Here is a link to the RAM - Newegg.com - G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory

I ran memtest with the old board and these sticks for 8+ hour each stick (ran the test seperately for each stick) with no errors reported on either stick. I have tried having them in slots 1 and 3 or 2 and 4 (they are currently in 2 and 4).

    I set the following:
    1) MCH Core = 1.20
    2) System Memory Multiplier = 3.0A
    3) DRAM Voltage = 2.10

The error i am getting most consistently is
    IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
    0x0000000A (0x00000000, 0x0000001C, 0x00000001, 0x805022F0)

profJim, switch to using Google Chrome. You can highlight text then right click and choose "Search Google For....." The RAM is 5-5-5-15 @ 2.0-2.1V, google took me right to the Gskill web site. Chrome is just about the fastest browser too, way faster than IE and Firefox.

The problem sounds like it must be hardware related. Other links for that stop error give drivers as the reason.

Have you tried running the SATA ports in IDE mode rather than AHCI? Also swap the CD/DVD drive to the purple JMicron ports and try again. Even try another CD drive if you can.

Is there any way you can get hold of a copy of Windows7 RC? It's an outside chance, but it may be a XP/Vista driver that the system doesn't like when it loads it to install. Win 7 may have a different version of said driver.

I tried Win 7 RC 32bit, that just hung even before it got into the installer. i believe i am in IDE mode not AHCI or RAID. i can try switching the CD drive to the Purple ones when i get home. going to test the ram in my work machine now.

So different RAM didn't help, plus the G.Skill sticks worked fine in my work machine. The only thing that i haven't changed is my processor. Could that be the issue? I have tried a different video card as well.

Either that or there is a setting i am missing somewhere that i can't figure out...
