    Default 3.6GHz on a GA-EP45-UD3P & Q6600

    Well couple things since last I tried to get to 3.6GHz. I ruined my UD3R. Added the hardware to really secure the S1283 Red Scorpion CPU cooler and took the CPU out to clean off any possible thermal compound. On putting it back, the CPU slipped out of my fingers and bent probably 15 pins on the MB CPU holder. If there is a way to straighten them out, I failed. So figured what the heck and went to the UD3P and gained a second video card slot. Then the old Antec 900 had run its course and was replaced with the Cooler Master Sniper. WOW, what a super nice case for the dollars. Even with the fans, plenty of room for the CPU cooler. Certainly not as noisy as the Antec but it will be soon. Moved the big fan on the top to the side..where optional fan(s) can go, put my 2 Antec 120mm fans up where the big fan was on top and have ordered a 140mm fan to go on the bottom as an optional add-on. You can read about it on the Cooler Master web site, but boy was I impressed... hiding the wires is wonderful.

    Now to the adventure. Here are the settings I used to get 3.6GHz stable.

    So it is running but I haven't stressed it yet. I had initial stability problems until I increased the Static tRead Value from 7 to 9.

    Now, do you all see any mistakes that stand out? Per LSD, I bumped the CPU Termination to in excess of 1.380V. Haven't tried to reduce any numbers pending counsel and advice from LSD and all the other good folks here. So have at it. BTW, my idle temps aren't so great. But it is running at 3.6. The core temps via CPUID Hardware Monitor are in order: 51, 44, 48, 46. The temps may be the reason to bring the system back to 3.4GHz. It is in the 70's as I do this. Perk or curse of being retired is testing at 4am with the windows open. Sleep and real heat will come/return very soon.

    I can't believe it but the system made it through the Intel Burn Test (5 iterations). The core temps were 85,85,83,82 at their highest.

    Went with suggestions from several folk. Have to say it is rock solid stable but it all goes for naught. The idle temps are just too darn high here in the desert, so am backing down to 3.4GHz, see how it does and 3.2GHz if necessary. May turn on the EIST as well. My system really needs to be in a refrigerator. Less impressed with air cooling, not because it is bad, but if your ambient temp is high, it just blows hot air. Oh for a reasonable water solution.

    Maybe the Cooler Master V10? Anyone had experience with one? The Peltier device might not produce great idle temps, but maybe back-off on the temps during high stress. My case was certainly made to house the monster.
