    All good advice and it is much appreciated. Believe me, I am being systematic and methodical in my approach. Going through each change and noting results and then building on successful combinations. It just takes time is all. Still priming and it is hot in this room. Room and case temps reaching 29c. Maxing on small prime temps at 64c. Starting to get nervous about the temps but we will see.

    Ok passed 24hr prime blend with 500 x 8.5. Spent a lot of time tweaking with various combination to try to get it to pass with vcore at 1.2625v but it wasn't happening. Close but no cigar. Had to ultimately give it 1.28125v.

    I am going to re-seat my heatsink before progressing to the next phase though. Originally, phase 3 was 500x9, but I thinking about trying 533x8 just to see satisfy my curiosity about the buffalo firestix memory as I haven't read about them on this forum with this board. So maybe I will detour to phase 2.5 first.

    Aye, as long as the |CPU's up to it, you should hit 533, maybe higher if the RAM wants to overclock a little. DDR1100 should be easily doable, and maybe DDR1200 if you get lucky. That may need some more VDIMM though, and possibly relaxed subtimings. For RAM OC's I've found that the second layer of sub-timings loosened by one each gave me much more headroom. These are the subtimings that almost everyone leaves on Auto. They didn't decrease performance at all according to everest, but they stopped the blue screens at DDR1100 for me.

    Tried a few settings with 533x8 but would consistently reboot upon post. Tried 500x9 but have to increase above 1.3v vcore and temps were getting to hot for my comfort zone.

    Started pondering.... do I really want to run 500x9 if I have to increase about 1.3v and use more power while having to deal with the higher temps? I would then have to get a higher cfm fan but would have to deal with more noise. Nah .... plus I can't afford the downtime of this computer because the "primathon runs" are taking too much time. I deciding to cave in and keep it at 500x8.5=4250mhz which is more than fast enough for what I will be using this computer for.

    Reseated the True and as I suspected contact was bad, but it was my fault for half-@ssing the install. Got it going and it helped a couple of degrees celsius.

    Found another hard drive that I had lying around and so decided to installed 64 bit Win 7 RC on it and will probably install my other 2x2gb of the buffalo firestix that I also had lying around to make it 8gb and see whether this mobo likes 4 sticks of the firestix. Then I will reconnect my other hard drive with the win2k and just use 2 sticks of memory and try to figure out how to get this mobo to read my usb sticks and flash cards under win2k as it seems the ich10r is not agreeing with win2k.

    Sounds like a plan.

    If you can manage to use a slightly higher multi and a lower FSB, you may be able to lower voltage a little and obtain a higher core speed. Use a divider then to max the RAM. I know what you mean tho, Priming is a pain in the ass at times, probably best to settle where you are for now, and enjoy using a fast machine.

    Shame bout some of your software being Win2K only. Maybe playing with the compatability settings will get some of it to work? Then again it's Microsoft, so who knows?

    Couldn't you set up a partition or get a smaller cheap HDD and run WIn2k on that?

    I could set up dual boot for both Win 7 rc and win2k but not interested because I will eventually migrate to the official release of win7 this fall and scrap win2k. This is my work computer so it has to be lean, stable, low in power consumption and quiet.

    I currently already do have win 7rc and win2K on separate hd's as I have a lot of spares lying around, so I just plug my sata connector to the hd with the os that I am testing. I dont' want to install my work applications on win7rc and pay the cost of another install of those applications, when I will have to do it again, when the official release of win7 occurs later in the year.

    Yeah, the quest for 4.5ghz was more to satisfy my curiosity about this chip, but then reality slapped me in the face, and asked "Why, this is just your work computer?". Frankly, I probably will enable speed step on this computer because even if the multi steps down to 6 on idle or low computing tasks, the fsb will still be 500 so I will still be getting minimum 3ghz anyway and this is plenty fast for this old os. Although it was fun, playing around with the bios and oc'ing to get more familiar with the nuances of this board and it's bios. The down time for the work computer is killing me because I have to use my buggy DFI RDX200 board which is driving me mad.

    I didn't see enough of a performance improvement between 500 x 8.5 and 500 x 9 to make it worth testing for stability.

    Here is my 500 x 8.5 set-up. It should accomplish what you just mentioned regarding Speed step.

    So after my brief but failed attempt at playing with my last round of 533x8, and 500x9, I went back to my original 500x8.5, and noticed that it failed prime95 at 8k ftt. Odd..... as it had passed prime before at 1.28125v. Maybe has to do with burn in? I seemed to have noticed that with my other board as well. When previously it passed 24hr prime95 at 1.25v, it would have to be bumped up 2 more notches in vcore after playing around with IBT, higher fsb tests, and what not. Anyways, bumped up vcore one step higher for this board to 1.2875v and things are golden again. Reseating the hsf really helped because even though the vcore was increased 1 notch, temps were about the same as if it were with the lower vcore.

    Wasn't having any luck getting the win2k to play nicely with the ich10r so found my winxp pro disk and upgraded to that. Everything works as it should so I am golden again.

    Figured Heck why not plug in my win7rc hd and install my other 4gb of firestix pyro ram to see whether they (8gb) were compatible with this mobo. Strange thing is that it wouldn't load up memtest86+ v2.11. Tried some changes in my bios to increase mch core, ref, vdimm, etc. and still no luck. Reseated all 4 memory sticks and not go. Tried to boot to windows and tried one pass of prime95 blend with the 1024 ftt and it worked. Figured maybe flashing bios to F9 might do the trick. Still same problem loading memtest86+ v2.11. Okay...pulled the 2 new sticks out and left the previous ones in its original position and again, v2.11 would not load. Thought that was odd. Tried memtest86 v3.5, but that did not work, so tried memtest86 v3.4 and it worked and passed one round. Not sure why memtest86+ won't work anymore. Thought it was my disk so I tried the memtest disk on my other ud3p and it worked. Stuffed all four sticks back in and ran memtest86 v3.4 overnight and it passed. Then ran prime95 blend and it just passed 24hr with the template below.

    So the only difference in the bios settings with my prior 4gb arrangement was the vcore go bumped up to 1.2875v and I bumped up the PL to from 10 to 11. So even though prime95 blend passed 24hrs, Burned another copy of memtest86+ v2.11 and it still won't load, which is odd. It just freezes at the loading stage. Anybody have any takes on this one?
