Must be unlucky or something. With the settings you suggested I can't boot even at 470, and 460 is extremely unstable. I didn't pump MCH Core over 1.2V though - but it still should be enough I guess!

Try my template, but set static tRead at 11 for now on both channels. You'll need more than 1.2V MCH for sure at anything over 400FSB. tRead is the likely cause of you not booting. Get rid of all those normal settings, andenter the ones from my post and you should be good.

You'll need to find your own ideal Vcore. Also you'll get better results on 2.00|D as far as RAM stability and tighter timings go. Strap B is intended for 333-399FSB, strap D id for 400FSB+.

From some of thesettings you have, you're running with failsafe defaults. Load optimized defaults and save and exit before entering the settings I gave. This probably happened when you flashed to F9. You have to manually save optomised defaults and exit before entering values.

You might have been right about the memory settings, typing this at 470, which previously wouldn't even show the BIOS screen.

I don't understand though, no matter what exactly it does, the memory is runninh way below the specifications...

    You mis understand.

If you look at your CPU and PCI clock drive settings in advanced clock control, you say they're both at 700. That's part of the fail safe defaults settings. My guess is that when you flashed to F9, you didn't load optimised defaults right after. You should always load optimized defaults, save and exit after a BIOS flash before going back and entering any settings.

I take it you have 1066 RAM? The next multiplier up (2.4B will putt your RAM way out of sped, you'll have to stick with 940. It's not too far off 1066, and it actually makes very little difference.

I see. I believe I did load optimized defaults at some point yesterday. Well this or that way, I changed all the settings you suggested after you posted your configuration.

Memory is 1066 indeed. No problem with running it on lower frequency - at least I can go for a bit more agressive timings.

The 470MHz I tried last passed several hours of Prime95, so I beleive I might be on the right way!
Oh and regarding the temperature - hot air runs up, right? I plugged the outtake FAN on top of the case in, and it seems like it helped a bit - shut Prime95 down just a minute or so ago, and the sink on NB was not THAT hot, at least compared to before.

Yes, Hot air rises, as cooler air falls, so there will be convection in your case. You must always have good case ventilation. Always have a minimum of one fan sucking air in at the front, and one blowing air out the back. Without those two fans, air just gets hotter and hotter.

The sink should be warm to the touch, but you should be able to hold on to it without feeling any urgency to let go. For example I have a set of DDR1-500 @ 2.75V and they get hot. By hot I mean I can't touch them even lightly for more than 3 seconds before it starts to hurt.

What do you use for stability testing? I mean, I can pretty safely tell whether the CPU is ok by running some serious amount of loops in Intel BurnTest, but that doesn't say much about the general stability. I guess blend or custom test in Prime95?
(not even starting about Memtest86(+), that's pretty obvious)
Currently trying to figure out stable voltage for NB. So far 1.240V MCH seems ok at FSB 480. Getting there!
    edit: it isnt:D

I usually go for 5 runs of IBT with 3200MB RAM used first. If it passes I move on to the hardest test for me to pass, which is Prime Large FFT. I've had times where I can pass 50 IBT runs but Large FFT will fail after about 20 min. If I can pass Large FFT for 8 hours, I usually call it good for trying higher. If I'm happy with the overclocked speed, I'll let Large FFT run for a minimum of 12 hours, then do a 24 hour Blend, followed by 12 hours of small FFT and lastly 50 runs of IBT at max stress.

I got a problem. Can't get anything above 480 to boot properly. I tried raising all the values with no luck.

This is what 480 runs stable at:
    Code:
    Load-Line Calibration.................: [Disabled]
    CPU Vcore..............1.27500V.......: [1.300]
    CPU Termination........1.200V.........: [1.2]
    CPU PLL................1.500V.........: [1.570]
    CPU Reference..........0.760V.........: [0.760]
    >>> MCH/ICH
    MCH Core...............1.100V.........: [1.3]
    MCH Reference..........0.760V.........: [0.720]
    MCH/DRAM Reference.....0.900V.........: [Auto]
ICH I/O................1.500V.........: [1.570] This is absolutely needed else I'd get a restart before AHCI BIOS screen kicks in
    ICH Core...............1.100V.........: [1.1]
    >>> DRAM
    DRAM Voltage...........1.800V.........: [2.080]
    DRAM Termination.......0.900V.........: [Auto]
    Channel A Reference....0.900V.........: [Auto]
    Channel B Reference....0.900V.........: [Auto]
The last three actually give me instability on Auto values, so I set them to 0.900@2.1V, then lowering to 2.080
I am really getting lost here. Perhaps I found the limit of the board? But some dude in another thread runs at 525 with LOWER values!

edit: what the hell, lowering MCH CORE from 1.3 to 1.26 let me boot at 485... That's some voodoo right there.
