    did a couple a test before going to bed, i think my memory is holding me back i hope not; going to test some more later on today

    well after an hour of sleep im back with energy

    and after minutes of google research lol i came upon a nice little post explaining the weird ways the Q9400 has in overclocking; long story short it said they rather love lower volts than higher.(not sure if thats a true if it ain't my mistake)

    so I decided to keep all my settings as of 3.2ghz and simple raise the FSB 438,the System Memory Multiplier 2.40B, giving me 1051 shy of my stock 1066

    "UPDATE": I knew i jump the gun on these settings, ran OCCT and after 1min of test it froze and i got the BSOD...........hmmmm back to the drawing board

    and low and behold it booted up,past POST, and loaded windows

    I know its to early to tell and I still haven't ran prime95 to see if its stable
    but that sorta shocked and confused me a little with the CPU Vcore being the only thing change


    On the side Note:
    Just For fun i put FSB:450(2.60GHz) lol
    to see if it'll boot and again to my shock it did 0_0 ..........but then froze after 30secs in desktop haha might need to tweak the CPU Term. and MCH Core but thats in a later note.

    Normal tweakers NEVER use "Normal" bios settings, they use AUTO or manually enter voltage settings.
    MCH Core is critical to booting and stability, set:

    All "Normal" settings to AUTO.
    MCH Core = 1.22 or 1.24 <-- for 2x2GB, 1066 memory
    CPU Vcore = ?? <-- you need to find what works
    ICH I/O = 1.57
    ICH Core = 1.20

    Switch to the 2.00D System Memory Multiplier, the 2.40B SMM will probably poop out around 459MHz. At 900MHz memory speeds, you can gain added memory performance later buy tightening the primary memory timings.

    quick update
    i reduced the FSB to 425 giving me 3.40GHz; Memory is at 2.40B(1020MHz)
    and changed all NORMAL inputs to AUTO excluding the CPU Vcore:1.27500V and DRAM Volt:2.10V

    just finished an hour of OCCT
    (not enough to be called stable just wanted to see if it will lockup)
    will run prime95 for quite some time to see if all is well

    Thanks for help guys! Couldn't have done it without your tips!
    Took some tweaking but finally reached 3.6ghz
    i might need to tighten the memory timings;any one have any suggestions?
    and i think need to upgrade my cpu cooler whenever i get the chance but these temps look pretty good for now

    not big on the memory timings
    any one have any suggestions on what memory timings i should put or should i just leave as is(5-5-5-15)?

    ur setting is almost exactly same with me, which is i use :
    vcore : 1,35625v
    vtt : 1,28v
    mch : 1,28v
    vdimm : 2,10v
    cpu pll : 1,5v
    rest are auto

    Btw i use ram pc 8500 with timing 5-5-5-15 and freq little oc'ed from 1066mhz to 1080mhz and FSB:DRAM is 5:6 (450:540), my procie is Q9400 but my VID is 1,2875volt which is too high, i wish i had VID 1,21 like yours then it could overclock with less vcore, am i right??
    I tried 3,8ghz stable 10 loops intel burn test but vcore is too high i think, it require 1,44volt
    O ya i wanna ask is it safe using vcore 1,4volt for daily computing?? its for 3,7ghz

    With FSB = 450MHz and using the 2.00D memory multiplier the following should work:
    Static tRead Value (tRD) = 9 (for Memory Channels A and B)
    Primary memory timings = 5-4-4-12 or 4-4-4-12 might be stable
    Advanced Timing Control
    tRRD ------------------- 4 ---------- : [3]
    tWTR ------------------- 4 ---------- : [3]
    tWR --------------------- 8 ---------- : [5]
    tRFC ------------------- 68 --------- : [52] <--- lower is better, 48 or 50 might be stable
    tRTP ------------------- 4 ---------- : [3]

    Using the 2.00B memory multiplier, the above settings should work.
    tRD = 8 will give you better memory performance when using the 2.00B memory multiplier.

    Your system might be stable using:
    2.40B memory multiplier (1080MHz memory speed)
    tRD = 8
    Primary memory timings = 5-5-5-15
    Driving Strength = OC-1200 for both memory channels

    You might find that the best real world performance is with tighter memory timings at 900 - 1000MHz memory speeds.
