Default Q9400 and EP45-UD3R OC Settings

First off I'd like to say what an amazing forum this is and has answered all the problems Ive encountered great community

    Now back to OC

Since I've gotten my stock settings Stable I decided to try and
    OC Im a Beginner to overclocking but have finally gotten stable settings;
I guess you could say that i want to know your opinion on these settings (i.e. the voltages and whatnot)
I ran prime95 and memtest which passed with no errors.

If all is well i might try for 3.5 or 3.6GHz

Yeh looks ok tho i think auto is preferable to normal.

What sort of full load testing temperatures are you getting?

The thing is once you move off 400 fsb you will have to over or underclock the memory if you want to stay on a D multiplier.
I doubt you would get 450 fsb 1200 memspeed with the 2.6D maybe tho .
    2.4 B multiplier might work for 1080.
You may also have to start putting in definite values for pll vtt etc as u go up in speed.
llc enabled doesnt seem to be a problem.
On some boards apparently (not ud3 45) there used to be voltage spikes.

My suggestion to 3.6Ghz, i believe you can get stable with this:

    Code:
    MB Intelligent Tweaker(M.I.T.)
    Robust Graphics Booster ...............: Auto
    CPU Clock Ratio ..........................:8
    Fine CPU Clock Ratio.....................:.+0.0
    CPU Frequency ...........................:3.60GHz(450x8)

CPU Host Frequency (Mhz) ............: 450
PCI Express Frequency (Mhz) .........: 100

    C.I.A.2 .................................:[Disabled]

    DRAM Performance Control
    Performance Enhance...................: STANDARD
Extreme Memory Profile (X.M.P.).....: Profile 2 or something
    (G)MCH Frequency Latch...............: 333Mhz
    System Memory Multiplier ..............: 2.40
    Memory Frequency (Mhz) ..............: 1080
    DRAM Timing Selectable ................: Manual

    Standard Timing Control
    CAS Latency Time........................5

    CPU EIST Function....................: [Disabled]
    Virtualization Technology............: [Disabled]

    Integrated Peripherals
    Legacy USB Storage Detect ..............[Disabled]
And there's some values at advanced clock control called CPU and PCI-E Clock Drive, set them to 800mv and 900mv.

You might find FSB Wall at 450Mhz, in other words it won't get stable, FSB440 should help. At least my knowledge overclocking Q9300.

Those settings cant be entered on the 45 UD3 boards

xmp profile isnt recommended at high speeds

2.50(A) multiplier is only available if you select auto or a 266mhz latch speed .

    450 mhz by 2.5 isnt 1066,its 1125mhz.

There is no advantage in disabling thermal monitor while overclocking

    Cool

my temps on load were at 48c-50c give or take each core
    which I think is okay

Gonna try tomorrow or thur to play with 3.6ghz to start off on planning on putting these settings to see what happens

    CPU VCore:1.36250V
    CPU Termination:1.340V
    MCH Core:1.30V

after that going to give AHPD settings a shot with a few adjusts :D
ill report back with good news or bad news

    thanks you guys!

Just forgot, it's 2.4D, if you set anything with strap of 266Mhz, your system won't boot, and gives 1080Mhz at 2.4x. I just edited my post to correct.

And no advantage setting C1E to disabled too. Thermal Monitor i will check what exactly it does, but it somehow reduces system consumption, according to everest, but i'm not 100% sure.

Finally XMP, i haven't ever experienced a problem with XMP set, i can boot all the way to 1180Mhz at 2.3v in my Four-Dimm configuration, but too afraid to set 2.4v and get 1200Mhz
But you should set latencies manually or mobo will loose values.

I've seen several threads where enabling X.M.P resulted in DRAM volts that were too high.
If your memory supports XMP profiles, a safer way to go is to manually enter the pre-programmed XMP settings using the displayed SPD settings from cpu-z or Memset.

Default Re: Q9400 and EP45-UD3R OC Settings

    On your original bios post
save the setting first (F11,F12 keys) then Id get rid of all those

    MCH Core.............1.100V............:Normal
    MCH Reference........0.760V............:Normal
    MCH/DRAM Ref.........0.900V............:Normal

    and make them

MCH Core.............1.100V............:Auto or a value such as 1.3 suggested above
    MCH Reference........0.760V............:Auto
    MCH/DRAM Ref.........0.900V............:Auto

See if it boots up ok.
Then the easiset thing to try would be a 5mhz cpu ref increase.

    ie 405 mhz.
Since you would still be on 2.66D memory multiplier that should tell you if the memory will run ok at 1080mhz.
Run a couple of passes of "memtest" on the memory.

If it doesnt boot up ..the part you are stressing most is probably the memory so maybe bring mem voltage up to 2.12/2.14 in bios.

If that works ok you should be set to gradually go for the settings above approx from AHPD
drop the memory multiplier down to 2.4B (you now know the memory will work ok at 1080 so doesnt matter if its underclocked for awhile)

Put in 410mhz cpu/fsb ref and see if it boots up ok and if it does test it..
If it doesnt boot you will probably have to start increasing cpu core V and possibly mch V as well.

Hopefully now tho you will only have 2 possible voltage changes to deal with.
Keep going up in 5mhz steps and dont enter over 1.40V for cpu voltage or 1.40V for mch voltage and you should be ok.

Im not saying the cpu or mch wont work with higher voltages than that but you shouldnt need anywhere near that high.
