    Default GA-EP45-UD3P + 4GB/8GB Corsair Dominator DDR2 1066 Intermittent Problems

    Hello everyone, I have had my UD3P for a couple months. I was running 'optimized defaults' for the first month without any problems, 100% stable. One day, many apps began segfaulting... i ran memtest86+ and many errors were springing up. I have tried since then many bios settings and have had it work for limited periods of time. Sometimes I find my system to be stable for multiple days!

    I really am not sure whether or not the memory modules are bad or the motherboard is bad... or if there is some 'magical' bios setting im not aware of...

    I was thinking perhaps the motherboard 'burned in' and now requires new, special settings...or perhaps the components are just 'barely' faulty... in which sometimes they work and sometimes they dont?

    Originally I was running all 4 sticks with optimized defaults which was working fine... for the last few days I have been running 2 sticks (4gb total) with the below settings which has appeared to be stable and passed memtest86+ with 0 errors for 9 hrs per run, 3 runs... and now it is giving errors!

    At some point, my computer freezes. (seems to happen while I sleep) When I reboot and run memtest86+, i get many errors. All 'error-bits' are XX000000... sometimes it is always ff000000, right now as I speak I am seeing random 'error-bits' all on the first 2 hex digits.

    Also, I want to note that sometimes memtest86+ reports a FSB frequency that is different than what is set in the bios! It does not occur consistently, but when it does happen, it is usually a couple MHz higher than it should be... for example, 335 when I have the FSB set to 333!

    Could you guys please help me work out this problem? It is giving me a headache as this intermittent problem seems to be so irratic. Thanks in advance for any help.

    Try under clocking your memory as you are using 4x2gb ram. You can try changing your System Memory Multiplier from 3.200B to to lower Multi. eg. 2.40B, 2.00D,etc. If that doesn't work you also may need to increase your Stastic tRead from 8 to 9.

    I am running 2x2gb at the moment. I lowered my System Memory Multiplier from 3.20B to 2.40B and 2.00B--both had the same errors... finally I set 2.00B and set memory timings to Auto and the errors went away.. then I set back the settings in my original post and no errors are showing up now... i expect errors will show up again soon... when they do I will try changing the tRead value as you suggested and see what happens.

    I changed the tRead to 9 with 3.20B mult.... and I still get errors... I am running memtest86+ with tRead 9 and 2.00B mult...

    for whatever reason the FSB drifts to 335/336 even with 333 set in bios... it is not something that happens consistently... sometimes it shows up as 333 in memtest86+

    when the system starts (333x9.5) is shown on boot

    I just got a few errors on Test #7, tRead 9, System Memory Multiplier 2.00B (all other settings the same as OP.

    The errors show up on both installed dimms. (slots 1 & 3)

    That is odd, as even with your original manual settings for standard and advanced memory timings they are pretty loose. Static tRead at 9 is forgiving, your only using 2x2gb of memory, mch core is more than enough at 1.24v (you may even try lowering it), vdimm is what your default recommended amount is I am assuming, the other bios settings don't seem unreasonable, and your only running at stock cpu speeds.....and even with lower system memory multi's it is still not working out...

    Try one notch higher with your vcore... probably not the answer but just try it.

    What power supply are you using, and may I ask what your temperatures are like?

    I added the PSU to the OP, Antec TP-750 (750Watt)

    Temps:
    Ambient: 28C
    System: ~50C
    CPU: ~50C

    This ram is 2.10V

    I just tried 1 notch higher of vcore, still get occasional errors on Memtest86+

    Psu is more than adequate.
    I hope cpu temp of 50c is not at idle, seeing as your using an aftermarket hs, which I assume should be better than stock.
    System at 50c, that is a bit high, even with ambient at 28c.
