IMHO, your temps are normal for the Q6600 with 1.38 vcore.

    Define normal.

The OP will undoubtably see a drop in temperature by replacing the Hyper 212 with a better HSF. I'm not saying he should. It's obvious from the temperatures that nothing is running overly hot, but replacing with for example a TrUE (or any other current enthusiast HSF) would undoubtedly reduce temps. In the case of the TrUE, probably by 6-10c.

3.2 is about as fast as I really wanted to run it but I did find out by accident that the Hyper 212 probably won't support too much of a clock. I got in a hurry and set it to 9x401 (instead of 8x401) and it got a blue screen at boot up. Since my temps are only 58*C at 3.2Ghz, I figured I could probably reach 3.6Ghz if I wanted. Might have to change some setting to get it to work. I'm just glad I was able to get my temps down from 74*C to 58*C on a 3.2Ghz clock under load. That seemed way to hot to me.

I accidently fixed the 22% CPU usage problem at idle also. I kept trying to boot to the Windows CD to repair Windows and it would not give me the CD boot option. When I had the computer apart, I decided to put ties around the ribbon to make it thinner to get better airflow so I replaced the cable and started up Windows and checked Windows Task Manager and my usage was back to zero.

3.4Ghz (8x425) gives me 36*C min and 64*C max so I might be able to squeeze 3.6Ghz out of it.

I got a black screen when I tried to boot so I set Graphics Booster to fast and raised Vcore to 1.45 and it booted up but when I put CPU to full load (Prime95 or X264 Benchmark) it freezes.

The following are the settings I am using on a P35-DS3P/Q6600/2x2G Kinston HyperX1066 setup:

    Robust Graphics Booster___________ [Auto]
    CPU Clock Ratio __________________ [8x]
    CPU Host Clock Control____________ [Enabled]
    CPU Host Frequency (MHz)__________ [450]
    PCI Express Frequency (Mhz)_______ [100]
    C.I.A. 2__________________________ [Disabled]
    System Memory Multiplier (SPD)____ [2.00]
    Memory Frequency__________________900
DRAM Timing Selectable_____ SPD __ [Manual]
    Performance Enhance ______________ [Turbo]
    CAS Latency Time__________________ 5
    Dram RAS# to CAS# Delay___________ 5
    Dram RAS# Precharge Delay_________ 5
    Precharge Delay (tRAS)____________ 15

ACT to ACT Delay (tRRD)___________ [Auto]
Rank Write to READ Delay__________ [Auto]
    Write to Precharge Delay___________[Auto]
    Refresh to ACT Delay______________ [Auto]
    Read to Precharge Delay___________ [Auto]
    Static tRead Value________________ [8]
    Static tRead Phase Adjust_________ [Auto]

    System Voltage Control____________ [Manual]
    DDR2 OverVoltage Control__________ [+0.30v]
    PCI-E OverVoltage Control_________ [+0.20v]
    FSB OverVoltage Control___________ [+0.20v]
    (G)MCH OverVoltage Control________ [+0.20v]
    CPU Voltage Control_______________ [1.4000v]

It's likely you will need more vcore since the VID of your chip is 1.325V. Mine is 1.25V.

I upped the voltage to 1.47v and was able to run x264 Benchmark. Will try Prime95. Temp was 64*C on load for x264 Benchmark.

I was really just curious as to how fast it would encode at 3.6Ghz (3.8Ghz really but I doubt I can do it on air). I'll drop it back down to 3.2Ghz when I'm done with the test. Don't really want to take my chances running that high a clock for a long period of time.

Anyone know what the vCore limit is on a Q6600?

Froze again within 10 seconds into Prime95. Guess 1.47v wasn't enough.
